Hey there.
Sorry to hear about this.
Can I ask you to try launching the game after a clean boot[www.ubisoft.com]? Based on your description about it sometimes working and others not and toggling focus in task manager does make me wonder whether something you have running in the background is causing issues.
Please let me know your results.
Cheers!

I believe from past reports this maybe due to a corrupted save file. Is Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and game all installed on the same drive? Are you using an SSD or HDD?
What you can try to do is going to save location which is usually found here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegame\<UbisoftConnectID>\5092
Make a backup of all your files in this location and than delete them all. What you want to do next is disable cloud saves from the ubisoft launcher so the save files are not downloaded again.
Once that is all done load up game and see if you can get past that screen. If you can than your recent save has probably been corrupted. Thats why you can get past that screen now as no saves exist.
If the above steps do not work also from Ubisoft let us know so we can offer more suggestions.
Hello,
I did the same like you said. Even after starting the game with a new save game, I still run into this issue.
I do not get a loading icon. The message "Press Any Key" stays there infinitely. Sometimes it loads successfully, sometimes it does not. My steam and Ubisoft connect is installed on the same drive but my game is in a different drive. I didn't have this issue with AC Origins at all.
Like Ubisupport also told me to try with a Clean Boot, I did that and it worked once. But launching it a second time, it got stuck at the Press Any Key screen again.
Thank you for the update and I'm sorry to hear about your experience.

What controller do you have?
I am wondering if there is a conflict with a peripheral attached to computer? Can you disconnect all except M+KB? Than try this.
Go to folder for documents>odyssey and edit ACOdyssey.ini. Towards bottom you should see input text. Change or add to this. Before editing make sure odyssey is not running and the file is not set to read only. Once set make sure to save.
[Input]
SelectedPad=None
KeyboardMouseEnabled=1
AutoSwitchEnabled=0
See this thread for using controller.

If it doesnt work with either delete that file so game will than load with all default values next start. Might help.
I am playing on a laptop with KB+M. I have a controller which I connected to try to recognise my key input. It recognised it successfully because the prompt changed to "Press A to continue" but the controller inputs were also not recognised.
It finally accepted my keyboard inputs but I had to wait on the main menu for atleast 5 minutes. I changed the ACOdyssey.ini to the values you told me but it didn't seem to make a difference. But since my input was accepted after 5 minutes, I decided not to quit and played the game for an hour.
If the next time I play it does not recognise the input I am going to delete the file and see if the game loads up the reset values and whether it works like you told me. I'll keep you posted on the status. Thanks :)
Thank you for sharing this with us! I'm glad that the issue was resolved, hopefully, it's not a temporary resolution, but permanent!
However, is you're still experiencing this after restarting your game, feel free to update this thread!

OK, I would also suggest checking your power profiles. If using a USB controller make sure your ports do not get suspended. Try setting to max performance. Just make sure laptop can breathe, vents are not blocked, and its not on a bed or couch cushion. This way it can cool efficiently.
Maybe try installing game again on same drive as Steam and Ubisoft Connect?
Are you running multiple monitors?
Is game in full screen or windowed? Tried alt-tabbing to see if you get a faster response?
Have you looked for driver updates from the manufacturer specific to your model? As well for BIOS? Sometimes simply updating display driver helps. You should be on NVIDIA driver 526.86 as that is latest release.
Hello,
My power profile is set to "Ultimate performance". My mouse USB ports are working fine as far as I know because this is the only game in which I am having this issue. I am playing on a cooling pad and I usually clean my laptop once in two months by opening the case. All my vents are pretty clean :)
The reason I am not installing this game on the C drive because that is where Windows and all other softwares are installed and since this game is a whopping 170 GB I fear it will fill up C to a large extent and may cause performance issues for the OS itself or hinder future OS updates due to space issues.
I checked for manufacturer updates today and installed 2 of them which were found for my system. One was for my Wifi adapter and the second was for my intel integrated GPU. I am also on the latest Nvidia driver update 526.86. This issue was also happening on the previous driver update too.
I'm gonna play in a little while and let you know if the issue happens again.
Update-Still having the same issue. I waited for atleast 5 minutes after which my prompt was recognized. Just an additional info, I am able to skip splash screens of game logos and everything successfully. Its only when the main menu comes that I am unable to get any input.
The game install is just over 108GB with all DLC. I would suggest trying it to see if that helps. This way you know if that is the issue or not.
Are you running multiple monitors?
Is game running in full screen or windowed? Tried alt-tabbing to see if you get a faster response? Older threads have said this fixed the issue for them.
Have you tried disabling both Steam and Ubisoft Connect Overlays?
Did you delete config file to load the game with all default settings?
I would also suggest trying DDU to completely remove both display drivers for intel and NVIDIA. Than install latest again. This may help improve performance.
Here is link to DDU. It explains what it is/does. It also has a guide. Make sure to read/follow it if unfamiliar. Will have to be run twice in order to remove both. https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4194
I have given up on this.
So, I installed the game in the same directory where Steam and Ubisoft Connect is installed. I disabled both the client's overlays.
I also deleted the config files and let the game load a new one automatically with default settings.
I also used DDU following the instructions and completely installed both Intel and Nvidia display drivers.
Nothing helped. Game still stuck at "Press Any Key". Its random. Sometimes it recognizes the input but 90% of the time it does not and I have to restart hoping that the next run will be successful.
Thank you for the update and I'm sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue.

I think I solved my issue.
Apparently I didn't run DDU properly. When rebooting in safe mode to uninstall the drivers, I forgot to disconnect my internet.
After running it a second time. I installed the updated drivers manually. I have noticed that since I did that, the game seems to recognise the "Press Any Key" prompt. I tested it thrice and it seems to be working. Its hard to imagine this issue can stem out of a GPU driver.
I'll do some more testing for 2 days just to confirm.
Thank you so much for diagnosing and resolving this issue for me animal_PLANET :) I really appreciate it.
Glad to hear that you stuck with it and didnt give up!
Yea, if you dont disconnect internet before using DDU and computer is rebooted back into normal mode. Windows will recognize you do not have a video driver/s installed, use whatever version is on the server, and will start to install it automatically in the background. If you are also installing the driver/s it can cause issues and conflicts.
At least now you know how to use it and hopefully this was indeed the solution. Fingers crossed. Keep us posted!
Sure, I will keep you posted on this. I am thinking of keeping this thread open for two days. If I don't face an issue, I'll mark this as "Solved". :)
Edit- I spoke too soon. Launched the game just now, it did recognise the prompt but I had to wait for 30 seconds. Something is definitely going on. Let's see tomorrow. Its already late here. I'll let you know.
