Dagger to the Heart quest broken?
The game claims I can talk to the dagger associate at his house. I can't. He's in a restricted zone and being seen aggros him and his guards. What's the deal? This a bug?

As usual - there is no bug. Whats the problem with the restricted area? You still can talk to the guy. Sneak in, be behind him and then use the "E" key to talk to him. But it doesn't matter if you talk to him or not, he will attack you anyway. The easiest way is just to go in and kill them all.

A small hint - when you are done with the guy, you can easily save both the theater owner and his wife.

Cheers!

Issue was that he refused to move to the back of his property where the guards see you less quickly. At the front it was literally impossible to talk to him. After I fast traveled out and in of the area it fixed itself. Saved both of the questgivers using the slowmotion arrow thing. Thanks regardless

Yes, sometimes they block each other and you need to wait a bit or just restart your last save. I always do manual saving before some big/major quest, just to be sure that I can reload the game if something goes wrong. But in this case it wasn't necessary to talk to him at all.

I used the multi shot ability to save the two, it always works great against multiple targets: 1 shot - 4-5 dead bodies :)

This is one of the few quests that uses the VIP class of NPCs in their design.

A VIP in stealth gameplay is an NPC with an entourage whose job is to protect their client. Nation Leaders are a type of VIPs, and in this quest, the target is also one. It is a stealth puzzle.

The entourage / bodyguards act differently than the regular NPCs, in that if the VIP or anyone else in the group is in danger they prioritize the safety of that group than the faction they belong. They are coordinated and become suspicious if notice anyone in the group is missing or killed.

There are many ways to deal with this type, but one of them is to use their suspicion and protective behaviors against them, lethally or non-lethally:

If this mission was in the older AC games, then you'd be required to approach them stealthily, and will be forced to re-do the mission if you get detected. However it's not. It instead exists as part of the open world, therefore being stealthy is optional, and if detected you can let it play out or reset however you like.

Even if you get detected and aggro them, you can still escape conflict and then re-enter stealth mode. Not as elegant as you would've liked, but the experience of letting it play out & observe what happens helps your skills in the long run.

No issue with the previous mentioned quest, it just looked buggy at first glance. I do have a bug with an NPC at the quest "Thought and Deed" where the philosopher that gave me the quest won't speak to me after I've completed the objective. The quest is on Pharos Island, but I'm not sure if that helps since these quests look a bit random generated.

Hi Lord SidiJASS.

Sorry to hear you've encountered an issue with a different quest.

Would you be able to try verifying the game's files, to ensure no files are missing or corrupt?

If the problem remains after trying this, can you confirm if you're seeing the 'Return to the Philosopher' mission text in the top left?

Many thanks.

Bug fixed itself on reloading. No issues after that. Thanks regardless.
