Game won't start anymore, black screen (fixed)
I've been enjoying Odyssey since the launch with no major issue except a few BSODs, the game was starting fine and I've had no black screen, until tonight. When I got back from work I started the game and it has been stuck on a black screen, no audio or video. It hangs after the title splash screen, after the game goes "fullscreen", when it uses 1.1 to 1.2GB of RAM.

I have tried to:
- Delete the config file in Documents\Assassin's Creed Odyssey to generate a clean one
- Through the config file, set full screen and windowed
- Verify the game files integrity with Steam, no problem
- SFC /scannow and chkdsk, no problem
- Do a clean reinstall of Nvidia 416.16 drivers
- Reboot
- Disable firewall, who knows what kind of check that lovely Denuvo does...
- Start the game through steam or uplay
- Disable uplay in-game overlay
- Close all game / gpu hooks like playclaw & borderless gaming
- Unplug secondary monitors

Nothing worked, the game still hangs right after the splash screen, when it uses around 1.1GB RAM.

On Uplay I also have For Honor and it starts fine, like the other 100 games or so on my PC.
My specs are 8700k, 1080 TI, 16GB DDR4, OS and game are on an SSD, Windows 10 October 2018 update.

I'd like to be able to play, any idea?

Fixed!

The game starts fine after I closed Joystick Curves, a program that emulates a virtual joystick to edit the curves of my HOTAS. It's amazing Odyssey fails to start when that program runs, there's something too picky in the code for controllers.

Hey there,

Glad to hear you managed to resolve this!

I encountered this EXACT same problem but do not have joystickcurves

i7 7700K @ 5.0GHz, GTX 1070 SC (Driver 417.35), 16GB DDR4@3200MHz, Game installed on SSD, Windows 10 Build 17763

Tried:
- Tried switching from Full Screen to Window when game launched (Alt + Enter)
- Renaming the config file in Documents\Assassin's Creed Odyssey to generate a clean one
- Disabled Geforce Experience Overlays

FIXED:
Game fails to launch when RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS 7.1.0) is running. This was occurring even with the overlay disabled. RivaTuner is installed when MSI afterburner is installed which I use for overclocking my GPU. I uninstalled RivaTuner and was able to launch the game without issue (MSI afterburner and GPU OC still running).
