Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. Could you confirm what headphones / speakers you're using for your audio? Have you tried using different ones to see if it still does it then?
Does reducing the volume from Windows volume mixer make any different to the muffling of the sound or does it do it with all volumes you use?
- Ubisoft Support
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing issues with the your audio during cutscenes whilst using 7.1 output.
After a Windows or game update, Windows can sometimes change the preferred audio device your PC uses for the game, in the Windows settings. Would you be able to try all of the following steps which contain the most common fixes for audio issues, after verifying your game files if you haven't already done so:
1. Some of our games that support 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, may be configured incorrectly on your PC sometimes, so certain audio channels such as voice lines or sound effects may not be heard in your game. To check if this may be the issue:
- Right-click on the Sound icon in the taskbar and select 'Sounds'
- Choose your current audio device being used
- Navigate to Properties and click on Advanced
- Uncheck the 'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' box
- Experiment with selecting lower or higher bitrate (use 24bit/44100 Hz or 24bit/192000Hz if the option is given on your audio device
- Test the sound of the game again, after relaunching the game
2. If using any other sound-controlling software such as Discord or any other VoIP programs, please disable this through Task Manager and relaunch the game, to check if these programs were causing any interference with your audio.
3. Test the game in borderless window mode, windows mode, and full screen to see if all display options have audio issues. Sometimes running a game in borderless window mode specifically, will fix this issue.
4. Next, check your Advanced Windows Sound Options for the game, in case an update has changed some of the settings you were using:
- Right-click on the Volume/Sound speaker icon in your Taskbar and select Open Sound Settings.
- Scroll down until you see the Advanced Sound Options and select App Volume Device Preferences.
- You will see an 'Output and Input' option, make sure you have your game open, and it should appear in the list of applications here.
- From here you can assign which device the listed applications/game will output their audio to. Under the dropdown column for the game, select which Audio Device you'd like to output the game's audio to whether that be a headset or a speaker.
5. Finally try running through Windows own audio trouble-shooting guide[support.microsoft.com] for the most common fixes to sound issues on PC and in-game. This guide also explains how to use Windows own built-in audio trouble-shooter.

Settings > System > Sound > Speaker (your device) > Sound Enhancements > TURN OFF.
I did this during a dialogue in the game, and the sound was instantly fixed.
