Got to allow the gamer to choose their choices, but allow them the options to do so...
This requires the developers to allow an on/off HUD mini-map button in the options like we have for other things or other HUD options.
Let the player decide if they think its obtrusive to their immersion experience or not. I for one am very familiar with how a mini-map should work and want to work and have no issues nor think it would diminish any nano spec of immersion for me. In fact, it would enhance my immersion experience as I have listed several examples earlier.
I have already detailed significant uses for mini-map for open world rpg and how they have nothing to do with and are not related to FPS reasons. Again, the mini-map displays the same thing you see on the world map before it is explored. Don't understand why you fail to see that. This is a simple solution, no issue there. Your argument about Exploration fails and doesn't hold water. I will say it again, in case it didn't register the first few times, the mini-map shows the same thing as your world map for unexplored areas. Once you have explored that area then you get to see greater detail that would be appropriate for mini-map, some we have pointed out already previously. THE WORLD map is blank until it is explored, thus so goes the mini-map, pretty simple concept. I rest my case, the court is adjourned!
Also, about planning, you need to use your pov and your head (so yes, again, devs intentions there for the gameplay).
For all that, I would say the new trilogy (and the classic TRs) are way more complicated without a mini map and still the all the TR series dont have mini-map (tho they implemented a mini-map you are forced to watxch every time you want to check your gear or skills what . .. I find very intrusive as I would not want to use the map at a TR game).
It is all game design choices by devs.
(and no, I dont want a mini-map for Origins neither for Odyssey, I find these games to be great without it)
I play on a 1000R curved monitor so, its like my own personal cockpit and is choice when playing any Open World RPG.
Nice try, come again. Next one please :)
These games you mention never heard of nor played obviously. I've been playing open world rpg game for decades now and I can tell you most have and continue to have mini-maps which I do enjoy and many of my friends and family enjoy the experience as well.
I think the developers are making the wrong choice by not having it and especially having it the way I have described.
It's worth noting here as well, many game design companies are learning to turn to the players, the gamers, the community for their intake and thoughts and are implementing them constantly. The more they listen and allow for input, the better the games they put out , thus experience for the player. You don't know what your missing I guess.
Oh sure, no worries, that is totally cool. Wasn't trying to convince you, I enjoyed the debate and sharing our thoughts on the matter.
And yes, was dev choice, not mine unfortunately, so the cookie crumbles, lol. Not everything can be perfect... or can it? hmmm.. I'm willing to bet...... to be continued :)
And for the record, I am LOVING AC Odyssey!!!. I am currently lvl 45 and have approximately 200 hrs of play and still in the beginning of chapter 5 main quest story line. I don't see any end in this game. If I were to rate this game now on a scale 1 - 10, I would say a hard 7 and teetering towards a hard 8. By my personal standards, that is a very very very very excellent OMG rating. For example, I give the Witcher 3++ games a 8.5 and almost until now was the best open world RPG game I have played. Who knows, by the time I finish 1000 hrs from now of AC Od game time, I would have a new favorite.
Peace out Brother!
