I have to preface my opinion by saying that I'm a viking girl at heart. I love the Norse era so I immediately gravitate toward games that showcase that theme. I loved Odyssey but as a completionist it plays so big that I felt a need to take a break from it.

Being a viking girl I obviously quickly bought Valhalla and loved it as well. However, even though I love the Norse themed world, Odyssey's world is much more vibrant and pretty. Also, Valhalla crashed quite often and the game is simply not as stable and smooth as Odyssey.

Although the combat and stealth in Valhalla is fun enough, the combat in Odyssey is also much smoother and enjoyable than Valhalla's. Valhalla's combat felt a bit clunky. For some reason they also had the climbing key be the space bar and the dodge the shift key. I know you can rebind it but having gotten used to the dodge being the space bar, it just felt weird that the same developers would make what I feel is such an unnecessary change. That said the dodge function in Valhalla was definitely wonky and very frustrating. Odysseys was much more smoother, predictable and responsive.

Overall, they are both great games but IMHO Odyssey is a much more a quality game than Valhalla. Valhalla seems rushed. Not to put it down because it is still a great game, but the quality details just aren't there in Valhalla like they are in Odyssey. It almost feels as if they were made by two totally different development teams.

In short, whereas Odyssey plays like a labor of love by a committed dev team, Valhalla almost seems like a gloss over place holder for the next great Ubisoft game which for personal reasons won't be Mirage. Reason being is they've decided not to have a female protagonist so I will not support it and neither will any of my girl friends.. Hopefully, that is an outlier and they will go back to featuring a choice for female protagonist in their future games.
Not supporting a game or even trying it cause the main story is about a male...trashy woke opinion that no one should value.

What's woke about that? You may or may not agree with their opinion but it's a reasonable one to hold.
If the gaming world was flipped the other way and almost all games had only female protagonists I'm sure plenty of male voices would be squealing.

It always strikes me as strange that being socially aware is seen as a bad thing.
Some people may like Valhalla better others Odyssey. It's just a matter of personal taste and game preference. I mean, I like Valhalla too, I just think Odyssey was better made. But that's just my personal opinion. I would never be mean to another person simply because they have a different opinion than mine. I also never claimed to be informed about who developed which game but the fact that they were does validate the point that they were clearly developed by different development teams and that is clearly evident by the level of quality featured on each game.

Regarding not playing the game because they don't give us an option to play as our gender, that's also a personal preference. Whether you agree with it or not is hardly relevant to the way I feel. You may "personally" deny it but I bet a good majority of males would feel the same way if 95% of games made where made with female protagonists. As a matter of fact, you see it all the time with the limited of games that do feature a female protagonist only. Gosh, even with Odyssey there were a lot of guys complaining about Kassandra, and they were given a choice.

I understand that there was a time when males where the predominant gaming demographic. But its almost 2023 and times have changed. Females make up a good portion of that demographic nowadays too and we are, for the most part, simply and after thought with many game developers. We don't want games to be just female only protagonists, we just want the option. Its time things changed to make us more inclusive and it would be so nice if males joined us in that regard instead of making it an "us against them" thing.

Because the game is meant to tell a specific storyline and story arc. If they wanted these things they would have given you the option to choose if it was Basim or Basima in Valhalla. Its woke because people like you and others are making it a very petty excuse not to play or enjoy a STORY line in a very good franchise. The fact that you guys cant even see the story but just the fact that you need to play as a male or female is ridiculous. Both Valhalla and Odyssey I played as the female protagonist so I ENJOY the choice...but to possibly miss out on a great game simply because its a story based on one specific character, just a tad ridiculous. To each their own, just like you said this person is allowed their opinion as am I.

Asking female + male character on a triple a i don't see any problem, they have budget and big devs team, it won't impact that much the quality of the game. But asking that on an indie game is asking to drop something else more important that could benefit the final product.
You can have a billion budget, but a Story about a Male Char is a Story about a Male Char.....

I mean if they want to adapt the story to two different character (male/female female/orc or whatever , they can without impacting the quality of other aspect of the game. Indie game its another story .

With a billion budget you can adapt The witcher 3 with a Dog as the main protagonist.

Why is it so hard for you to understand this is a story...specifically about ONE character (who happens to be a male) that you meet in valhalla. You are looking way to hard into this and completely ignoring the story of one of the OG members of the Creed and how his story came to be. I cant believe people are actually poo poo faced about what ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gender you play in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.

Some people really like to identify with the character they play as.

In my case i try to play females so i DONT identify with the character, because i can play a female character that makes choices i wouldn't make, but i CANNOT play a male character that makes choices i wouldn't make because i identify with them more making it annoying when they act ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid... i honestly stopped buying games with male protags because of it... it's honestly a pain in the ass because i can't help it either. KEK.

I don't care the gender i care about gameplay/story etc. My point is making 2 character with their own story take more ressources that could go elsewhere. What do you don't understand about that ?

i prefer Odyssey, open world in Odyssey 100times wider than Vahalla.

The landmass is actually bigger in Valhalla than Odysssey. It's only because of all the water that it seems larger

I would say Valhalla has better battle experiences and significantly longer, but some talents in Odyssey are more enjoyable.

Odyssey is lots of times repetitive.

i do not think Elden Ring should be compared to AC games or other triple A titles because the look of that game is horrible and fuzzy on my machine anyways. For me graphics are really important and I just can not get into Elden Ring because it looks really bad. Now i am going to address the comment about AC guiding you like a baby, I play with all UI off. This really makes the game more immersive then Elden Ring because you have nothing on your screen. Not even your health bar. The game is very good at letting you know if your low on health visually without a UI present. Try the game this way and you will find it more to your liking.

I found that Valhalla was too long and I got a bored with it. Also the fighting was simple. In Odyssey you can specialize your build. I am mastery 52 now and just has some of most amazing fast action boss fights. But it is too bad you have grind a lot to experience just how good fighting can be Odyssey. But that is what keeps me replaying Odyssey with new builds and armor sets and different play styles. Whereas I am pretty much finished with Valhalla and I have no desire to do another play through.
