Gameplay wise-
Between Odyssey and Origins, Odyssey is my favourite because of the skill tree, masteries and weapon engravings. You are literal Demigod!
I had to stop myself from playing Odyssey because I couldn't okaying anything else. For me it still has playability value (After 300+ hours later).
Also, I love photo mode which goes well with Kassandra (I like photographing her much more than Bayek lol).
That said I loved exploration in both, though Origins was better. Does exploration in Valhalla really feel dead?
Storywise, although I never took Odyssey's story seriously I loved how goofy it was, even drama was over the top. Origins on other hand although may seem better but I didn't enjoy it that much.
So, I agree that Odyssey is least 'Assassin's Creed' game but it is most fun.
Only way Valhalla can take its spot is if it offers better gameplay- Better combat or RPG systems (I assume exploration will feel same to me). I don't expect to be blown away by story anyways.
Anyways odyssey is my favorite. And I liked origins and Valhalla somewhat same.
This is the Odyssey section because there IS no Valhalla section, because Ubisoft seems to be breaking off from steam pretty much completely now and using its own platform, or other 3rd party platforms with it's own platform probably still behind them, to sell games. I won't use either of those choices personally I won't buy another Ubisoft game as long as they aren't for sale here on steam.
Could I use other platforms, sure, I already have Uplay installed since I am forced to to play any of the ubisoft steam games I own, but I won't buy from it. I certainly won't add a 5th platform (epic) to get any games through there. Is there FOMO because of this, sure, but I value having all of my games in one place more than I value satisfying that FOMO, I have enough games that I could probably go the rest of my life without buying a single one and still not run out of things to play at this point anyways. I could buy the game through Ubisoft and add it as a non steam game on here, yes, I've added games that way before, but that loses much of what I want steam for, and it supports a decision I don't like. (Yes I know a single platform isn't great for many reasons, I don't particularly care though)
It looks like I won't buy any more Ubisoft games anymore - I'll vote with my wallet - my few hundred a year across AC, WatchDogs, Anno, and other series alone won't do much to the bottom line, but it's pretty clear I am not the only one who feels this way, and a drop in sales revenue and/or numbers from all of us may be enough to force your company back to the table.
PS. Seems like Ubisoft aint have much popularity so thats why you want to get more attention on steam while sht post about a game which you copy past most of odyssey actions into valhalla am i right lazy bois
Origins's setting isn't terribly interesting. Although Valhalla's setting could be much more fun if it wasn't about 16 chapters of made-up country's unification bloat.
I've skipped Origins and waiting for 75% discount on Valhalla, just for collection. All the latest Ubi games look like low effort, except for Fenix maybe (but there they've used cartoon graphics which I won't buy in any case). Ghost Recon. The Division 2, Watch Dogs 3 - all are 50%+ discount candidates, there is nothing exciting about them.
It's like the company rush badly designed gaming mechanics into half-finished products to prepare them for re-use in the next half-finished product (disastrous Ghost Recon Breakpoint raids are replicated in Watch Dogs 3, for example)
Anyway, I'm quite happy how AC Odyssey became my first and the last AC game (I've tried others, quickly uninstalled - too boring after Odyssey). It's their peak and I was lucky to get right into it.
I loved Odyssey even tho it was really long and had so much of everything but oh boy, oh boy Valhalla does everything wrong. I played 77 hours and I am tired of it. My story is nowhere near ending I still have 2 key order member and 1 on top plus 5 unimportant members. I didnt do any of the side content because they are small and boring.
-Non rewarding progression and loot
-Wasted potential of sons of Ragnar and historical figures
-Boring and cheap looking skills
-Repetitive quests
-Terrible Pacing
-Terrible voice acting outside main characters.
-Way too much of quests in main story that make you feel bloated
-No bossfight musics (like Fenrir)
-Very limited songs in ship
-Cheap animations and buggy face expressions
-Bugs that are so broken they force you to go back on your save file
And what bothers me the most is this cash grab game is best seller in the series. This means ubisoft will continue this approach in the future. I bought the game in epic games winter sale and I didnt get to customize my character for the first 65 hours due to tattoo lady being bugged. Yes you heard me right. I simply couldn't speak to tattoo lady for the first 60 hours of my gameplay. There was Valka quest where she was bugged and I had to push NPC with a horse so she can align to start conversation. I just play this game for love of Scandinavian mythology and my interest in the historic era. If I had chance I would burn all the ubisoft servers to prevent them from releasing this garbage.
I was not interested in Egypt but I loved Origins I think it was the best in terms of open world and main story.
Odyssey improved a lot in combat and skills and Valhalla is terrible despite Viking era .
Since this game is not in steam I came here to tell my complaints. Thank you for reading if you came so far.
I haven't seen the game yet though. I really loved Origins and Odyssey too. (and a lof older games as well).
But I'm a Steam guy, so I'll stick with steam...
It WILL be on steam. Eventually. All exclusives end up here eventually :D
