Just an FYI to new players and those who don't know....

So when your're working on your Mercenaries Tier levels, make sure your doing them from left to right in order. It's not so important in the beginning but when you're Tier 2 and skip a few mercenaries to kill the Tier 1 guy it'll lock you into Tier 2 with no way to get the #1 spot. I tried restarting the game, bumping the difficulty up, as well as a few other possible solutions but nothing has worked thus far. Short of losing almost 20 hours of play by reloading an earlier save i'm kinda boned.

So let my screw up be a fair warning to others. Don't be like me.

Edit: I did reload and then killed him in order.

You'll still be able to get to the number one spot as it constantly reseeds mercenaries

I've killed Exekias the Legend once when I was only level 36 and only on Tier 4 and eventually it seeded a new merc to the number one spot. It just takes a few game days and/or mercenary kills. The number of mercenaries is basically unlimited

There is absolutely no need to do them in order. When you kill any mercenary above you whether they are 1 level or 10 levels above you it bumps you up one spot on the ladder and then the game reseeds a mercenary to replace the one you killed.

Here is a good example of a glitch in the game that only happens in one spot but it keeps fe3eding you new mercenaries as you kill them off until you end up with all the available spaces filled with dead mercenaries. The next time you start up the game the dead ones disappear and new ones start appearing both above you and below you

I have a playlist on my YouTube channel that may or may not help you with mercenaries. They are extremely easy to ambush when they aren't active so as you go through the game world always check them out with your eagle and look to see if they are above you on the list. Then just find a nice high spot and target them with a bow and Devastating Shots. These videos were all made on Hard difficulty with Heavy scaling and many of them are so many levels above me that all they would have to do is bump into me and I'd be dead.

The first time I played through the game I hated the mercs until about half way through and I figured out how to ambush them. I also figured out that it is important to kill them as quickly as possible to get those level 4 (50% discount on ship upgrades) and level 3 (50% Discount on Armor and Weapons upgrades) discount perks because they make a big difference in the cost of upgrading. Plus there are about 10 mercs that carry either a legendary armor piece or Legendary weapons including the two best bows in the game Achilles bow (Hunter bow) and Hades bow (Warrior fire bow)
