Are you on OS 3.4.6?? For me, this update causes the game to crash and reboots the entire console after playing any where from 5 to 45 minutes.

This is happening to me as well since the mesa update in 3.4.6. It seems the ram slowly fills up, and once it hits 14.2 Gb the system locks up or crashes and reboots.

So is there a solution in mind for this issue? Or is it something that the deck developers are going to have to address? Thanks for being so smart and explaining what’s causing the crash for a putz like me who doesn’t really understand my steam deck but loves gaming.

I'm not really an expert, I just turned the performance overlay on and looked for anything that stood out. It still happens with or without the "swap fix", 4gb vram, and proton experimental. I think the new version of mesa might have a bug with evicting things from memory, since ram usage seems to increase linearly. If so, it probably needs to be fixed upstream, and may take awhile to land on the deck. Hopefully it's something else and Valve can issue a hotfix.

Anyone know how to submit a bug report to Valve about this?

Relived to see this thread as I have the same issue.

It started last night, the game just freezes suddenly with no warning.

I created a discussion topic in the bug report discussion page - it said to do that in the support page. It also said that we could contact customer support and that would generate a ticket. I will try that tomorrow. I’m perfectly capable of trying another game for a while, but I’m a little nervous that I will run into a similar issue on other games as well.

Tried contacting steam support but it blocks me saying that steam doesn’t support problems with individual games. Maybe if we all make a post on the “report bugs” discussion then it will get addressed more quickly from moderators seeing it more quickly.

@cougarartist357 - I've replied on your post in the bugs forum.

Some recent Reddit posts seem to indicate this effects at least AC Origins and Valhalla as well. So, it seems it's not quite an individual game bug.

Only Ubisoft games then?

I had similar issues with Forza 4 on the Deck last year (well before this update), it was fine for the first eight hours and now it freezes within minutes, every time.
I presume it's a similar ram issue, but Microsoft support aren't interested.

My guess is that It's an engine-specific memory leak. Ubisoft is probably doing something funky with memory allocation. The latest update was most likely trying to make more efficient use of memory by not clearing it so aggressively, which has caused many things to remain allocated with this engine long after they are out of scope.

I also submitted a ticket to Ubisoft, hopefully they won't just close the ticket because they don't officially support the steam deck. I'll report back with what they say.

Strange I played for an hour last night and it didn't crash once.
