Disable E Cores if you have intel 12th gen CPU
Odyssey was a stuttering mess in till i used Process Lasso to disable the E Cores on my 12700kf when running Odyssey. Now the game runs glass smooth. If you have a 12th gen Intel CPU and are getting frame drops you should try this.

how is this done?

I did this suggested thing one month ago, and I can confirm it worked. I had changed my CPU to a 12600K and I was getting a bad framerate, and doing this fixed completely the issue.

You have to do this manually in the BIOS, but every motherboard has a different BIOS, so you have to find the option inside it.

@Chiva - You can totally disable E Cores in the bios, on my MSI z690 pro it is under CPU advanced. But you can also just use a handy program called Process Lasso that lets you pick and choose what programs you do and do not want the E Cores enabled for.

This YT video explains it all with the part about E Cores near the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2TEEq5tIGM&t=662s

Try disabling both uplay and steam overlays as well as disabling cloud saves first. Worked for me and it's now buttery smooth.

Yeah i launch Uplay in offline mode with everything disabled it lets me disable. The E core issue seems more of a game engine problem that Ubisoft has no interest in fixing. If you google "AC Odyssey 12th gen" Ubisoft admits this game does not work properly with E cores.

Weird. Maybe my Ryzen 9 doesn't have the glitch.

Nope, neither did my 6700k Intel cpu.

Sorry I couldn't help. However if someone on here is using an AMD CPU try doing what I mentioned above. Game was choppy for me till I disabled all that.

Well, some time ago I read that 12th gen CPUs had this problem with a specific list of games and not only with AC Odyssey. I also saw this list didn't have Ubisoft games only. Later I read a more recent article which said that the issue with this list of games was fixed, but from my experience this is not true. But exactly like you, I fixed my game by disabling E cores.

I also experienced stuttering with AC Odyssey in the past before this problem, but I have fixed by downgrading GPU drivers to 446.14 version and doing what Shotgun Solutions said (disable overlays and cloud saves).

@Alvagor - When the 12th gen first came out it caused a bunch of game's DRM to refuse to allow the games to launch, the DRM saw the new type of CPU as being more than one computer trying to launch the games. I think this has mostly been resolved.

SIms 3 is still broken because of the DRM issue and i wager many older games are as well. Odyssey has always ran well for me in the past so i never had to fuss with the overlays or anything on my old system that used a 6700k cpu. Only thing i would lower is the clouds from ultra back to just high or medium.

@Fluffy_Llama Yes, I was talking about the issues with DRM. At that time I read an article about saying there was this problem with DRM but it was fixed, however I experienced a bad framerate issue, and since the article was talking about E cores, I tried to disable them in the BIOS and luckily it worked. Like you I had no issues with my precedent CPU (i7-9700K), so I was pretty worried. Anyway let's hope your thread will help other players, since this fix is not that obvious.

And for those still looking to build a new system, this is a great example of why going with slightly older and more reliable tech is often better than going with new, untested tech.

Reliability, reliability, reliability. Don't be an early adopter, wait until the kinks are out.
