Setting yourself on fire

I have avoided dealing this damage with melee all together because I seem to catch myself on fire too easily. Is there a trick to it? Ignite the enemy on fire and then run around while they take damage?

I am always catching on fire, its a real pain in the arse. Using a fire weapon or lighting the burners in the tombs, or even moving those crates things in tombs. I reallly hope they patch it cuz it is so snnoying.

I find it far too easy to set yourself on fire as well, so I pretty much refuse to use a fire weapon or the fire ability anymore. Once you obtain rank 3 of the poison skill, it removes the cooldown, so thre's no need for fire since you don't need to alternate them to keep a DOT effect active.

Fire is more powerful, but much more annoying to use
Fire spreads by contact, so, in melee, an enemy you set on fire will spread it back to you

I use fire arrows with maxed out build up since all normal arrows are now fire arrows and those fire arrows are stronger than death arrows.

Using fire on melee isn't smart but you should switch to fire arrows, you'll be able to burn everyone.

True but if you are hiding in bushes and go to aim a fire arrow it sets the bushes, and you, on fire :(.

I've lost count of how many times I've done that. Never did really come close to killing me though.

Honestly open world games are very boring without this type of funny mishaps. For instance I was on top of a tent trying to shoot an oil pot by an enemy, he just dodged to the side and I guess my knocked arrow touched a part of the tent I was on top of and it got set on fire instead so I had to stumble off on fire like a real doofus. I didnt die so I just laughed it off

when using the fire weapons skill, you can't get in fire by contact with the enemies you puted in fire.
either he knocked you and you fell in some grass or you smashed something that can get in fire. or you stepped on the kind of torchlight they use in the towns or a fire camp.
also if you crouch in among vegetations with your sword in fire, it burns the grass. same if you crouch on top of a canvas tent.

Roll to get rid of the flames... but Elemental Damage is trash anyways.

Ticks with 2000-5000 damage. Not trash at all.

my take is that "fire" is broken when applied to the player ... compared to player applying it to an NPC ... easily get 1-3 shot by NPC's even on first attacks before fire is supposed to build up momentem ... even at lvl 50 ... simply cant be hit by fire from merc's ... and again if I use fire against them ... no build up ... no massive dmg imo

draws bow to snipe enemy
bow has fire arrow, sets bush on fire
sets self on fire
rolls back into a pack of wild boar
boar freek out and knock me down
im on fire, the bush is on fire
the boars are now on fire
enemy in the camp are like " hey wtf is that"
they come running up
everythings on fire
the boars knock me down again
the boars... the fire ....
