If you kill your horse is it permanent?

Just had the most stupid thing. I'm carefully aiming at a wolf and just as I release my shot my horse runs in front of the arrow and is killed. Yeah, I know that sounds unlikely, but that's exactly what happened, officer. Anyway, the horse is dead. Will it come back or is that the end of it?

That's not "trolling." Not everything that rubs people the wrong way is trolling.

There's a load screen tip that actually states that if your horse is severely injured that it doesn't die, but it will take some time before your horse is available again. (Tip wasn't specific how much time.)
