How do i dock to islands like this one that has no dock and i can't exit the ship without docking?

Do i actually have to swim from the closest dock to this island? or how does this work?

i just stop the ship close af to the island and then swin over/back...

hold down triangle if you have it on console not sure about computer but its the same you click to activate the boat but instead hold it down

Y for me as i use a xbox one controller, but thanks! that worked, now i just need to find out what i'm in combat with hehe.
