Windows 10 should have a built in one called "Windows sonic for headphones", there are also purchasable ones such as DTS X.
Enabling this seemed to force the game into Surround mode, while it would otherwise stay in Stereo.
-Tried it with Audeze mobius, set to 7.1(no spatial) the sound was muffled, but set to stereo (no spatial) it was not, (not muffled, that is).
-Tried with 7.1 and Windows Sonic, No longer muffled, did not try stereo seeing as the whole point was to use the 7.1 surround setting.
Hope this helps!
Edit: Yes I do realize the post is from over a year ago x) (Worth mentioning is that windows will configure the device settings back to stereo while spatial sound is active).
So I´m wondering am I having a problem with my audio or is this a common thing and I have no reason to worry? I know my audio system consists of two speakers and a subwoofer. The bad thing is I´m not sure if my subwoofer is working correctly anymore as certain high noises cause buzzing, not in AC:O but for example RDR2 wolf howl as the volume has to be kept quite high to be enjoyable. But I guess this isn´t related to the low chitchat volume of NPC´s in AC:O.
