Any other 'completionists' out there ?
So I'm 200 hours in. Cultists are dead and it would seem that, apart from visiting Korfu, I've finished the main storyline. The only 'big' things left to do are to visit Korfu and then tackle the dlc's. No rush. I started Korfu but left to go explore instead.

A close look at the map shows me that even after 200 hours I still have tons and tons of question marks and available quests scattered all over the place. (Not even considering all the random quests etc.) There are even some islands I haven't been to yet. I honestly think that there's probably another 150-200 hours of playtime left just exploring and clearing every cave, camp, fort, leader's house, shipwreck etc etc.

Has anyone else suffered this level of OCD ? The completionist in me needs to clear everything, so that when I move onto Origins or Valhalla I won't have this nagging feeling of 'unfulfillment'. I note that Steam says only a small percentage of players kill all the cultists, for example. Which amazes me............. unless you do that you have not finished the story. I mean c'mon - this game isn't exactly Elden Ring in terms of difficulty.

EDIT : gleaned from the interwebs : "Completionists are in for a big commitment with this title. From taking out all the mercenaries to wiping out all of the military camps, doing and experiencing everything AC Odyssey has to offer will take 136 hours or so."

Are these people on amphetamines ? I spent more than that just doing the main quest, albeit with an assortment of side quests. I estimate at bare minimum 100+ hours more to 'scrub' the maps.

I'm doing everything, if not there is this weird uncomplete(unfinished?) feeling? (I don't know how to explain it) and it happens almost with everything, books, movies, tv show.
It doesn't happen with every game I play, but books/tv show I cant help it, even if I don't like it.
135 hours sound about right to me
it's every game for me though. i have to complete everything otherwise i can't move on, it's constantly on my mind. it's not a negative thing, only negative thing is not doing it, i couldn't bear that. i love doing everything and getting everything a game offers and i never move on to another until i have 100% the one i'm on.

yeah to me too, 100-150h seems like a perfect middle ground, long enough but not too long.

I"m the other way around. I have played and still love all the AC games before origins but i prefer the big scale AC games. Origins was in my favorite setting and i would not mind if it would have been as big as Odyssey. I love how you can get emerged in those games for weeks, even months. I'm reading greek mythology when im not playing. Did the same with origins and valhalla. I just enjoy discovering every nook and cranny of the world that they recreated so beautifully. I already completed Odyssey on ps4 a few years ago and im even enjoying it more now doing it all again.
i will always prefer a story over the vastness of the world. do you remember few years ago when tv shows had 24 episodes? most of those were filler and weren't connected to the main plot in any way. that's what open world feels like if it's too big. it's too disconnected from the main part, adding nothing to the story. and when a gamer who only focuses on following the main story plays such a game they feel robbed of the experience because most of it is tied to things that offer no connection to the main story, no lore, no anything.
of course it is fun just being in the world, exploring, seeing things you can't see anymore in real life or will never have a chance to visit even if it does exist in real life, but there's only so many times you can kill enemies or see locations before you start yearning for story focused around those enemies or locations.

Odyssey's world size is torture. i still play the game for the daily and weekly quests since as a completionist i'm aiming to get every piece of gear and mount in the store, but when i was playing the actual game it took me around 350h to finish EVERYTHING and that's not even counting latest DLC because when i finished everything it wasn't out by then. every side quest (not counting repeating ones), every location, climbing to highest mercenary rank, arena, main story etc. for a completionist the game is exhausting and that's saying a lot because completionists lives for more stuff to do and things to get. reminds me of Breath of the Wild and getting 900 korok seeds... pure torture.
sidenote: just as a comparison Origins took around 150h to finish everything.

Get a hold of the book "A War Like No Other" by Victor Davis Hanson. It covers the Peloponnesian War and it a page turner. I was frankly surprised by how many things this game got right.
My way of playing games (when I like them) is doing everything but I try to focus on story. If quest path will led me to some new item or place I explore it but try to keep a balence to not forget what is actual quest about. F.e.; I visited Mykonos because of Kleio and did Kyra quest that is nicely conncected with "M for Murder" quest. I almost cleaned Mykonos "by accident" and now gonna go back to Aten for main story quest. I'm going to do everything but with a bit of order. That's the way I completed 100% of Witcher 3. I visited every house on the map. Every place. And it was amazing.
I'm almost done with the game.

Played and finished main story and all the DLCs. I have done all the 93 achievements and have all the ostrakas. And almost all engravings - I'm missing only 2: +20% dmg with bull rush and +25 dmg and health in conquest battle. When I get them, it will be done :)

According to Ubisoft I played 500 hours and have 21686 kills, distance traveled: 3434112 ;) But those numbers will definitely change, because I can't wait to start a New Game+! I just need to have all the unique weapons I missed (like the spartan javelin, I'm still angry because I made the wrong choice) or the Persian Warrior's Waistband, which I got but dismantled...

I really like the game. This huge amount of builds you can create is just amazing. It is worth every cent I payed. The only thing I hate are those fckin tombs... And those damn chickens :D

I actually love the tombs and all the mysterious bits. That aspect of gaming is why I like Valhalla as well - tons of mysterious, creepy stuff to explore.

Having said that the damn game just hard crashed in the middle of a freaking siege. One thing about Odyssey... it never ever ever crashed. Solid as a rock.

Nothing against mysterious things. But all this wasted time in the tombs is just bit too much for me. And I really don't want to say anything about valhalla. Will never touch this fail game.

To each their own, I guess :)

I really don't get the hate directed at Valhalla. Judge it for yourself and don't be swayed by what others say - that was my mistake. If you like Odyssey, it's a natural. People said that Odyssey was big and bloated and boring, so I put off trying it for a very long time. 230 hours later............. it's anything but bloated and boring. I enjoyed it immensely and definitely got my money's worth.

So they say the same thing about Valhalla. I bought it just to spite all the youtube commentators. Turns out, it's most definitely NOT Odyssey 2.0, but it definitely holds its own and has a lot going for it. In a lot of respects I actually prefer it to Odyssey, which is saying a lot. 40+ hours in I'm having a great time. I'll check back in 100 hours or so, but I suspect it'll still be fun from what I've seen.

I've played 50 hours of Valhalla and getting bored right after travel to England. Too much stuff I don't care and I don't want to. Story not involving, characters mostly annoying and forceable grind to push the story forward. Odyssey in other hands has also a lot of grind but you can focus on story. I just hate village building part and raids in Valhalla. Beside that whole story in cut into pieces. It's a long story but was hoped it will be one big epic story, not serialized boring stuff with colonizing every area.

Well the vikings did colonize. Remind me, in what year Valhalla takes place? At some points they became less of a raiders and more colonists.

Yep, they did. And I am amazed why these parts of game are so boring and repeating. I just don't feel any urge to play it this way. In RPG I just want to explore and move the story forward. I don't want to grind to build another building to unlock another stuff that really I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about. I felt so overwhelmed so I knew it's gonna be a long and kinda boring trip. And it was. Constant rides, new adventures in new ares with new forgettable characters with weird problems. You know, whole England just waiting for you to conquer entire continent. I've lost connection pretty early. Gave it some opportunity but finally gave up after 50 hours. Now I'm playing Odyssey. 70 hours mark and still like it. Not a masterpiece but solid story checked, great main character checked and really cool skill tree. In Valhalla skill tree looks like 1000 pieces puzzles. Vahalla lacks of personality. You do so much ♥♥♥♥ yet nothing is special or memorable.

Try Kingdom Come Deliverance. You want to get involved in a meaningful story, it seems. The story in KCD is incredibly good - the AC franchise pales by comparison in that respect. I couldn't stop playing my first time thru - had to know what came next. You can just stick to the main story if you wish and many people play it that way. It's an open world like Odyssey, although not nearly so huge.

To be brutally honest, I'm biding my time with the AC franchise waiting for either Warhorse or Bethesda to get off their arses and bring out KCD2 or Elder Scrolls 6. In the meantime, I do enjoy sneaking into forts and murdering everyone. Odyssey and Valhalla are good games I can play when I have some free time and want some harmless jolly's - I liken them to Skyrim in that regard. KCD was an addiction that I couldn't stop playing for the life of me. Big difference !!

Still - to each his own !

I've almost finished most of the islands, save for Euboea which I just arrived at last night (it's a big one). Just cast a close glance over the rest of the map and was gob-smacked by the vast number of question marks still left all over the place. Just Athens alone has tons and tons of places to visit, ransack and rob.

If I don't hit 350 hours I'll be surprised. Not even talking dlc's yet.
