* The highest range is from above directly over the victim. Still very short compared to Black Flag though, Like 5 meters or so.
* The flatter angle to the victim is, the less range to him. In level with them you need to be very close, like 2 steps away.
Therefor even small height difference works in your favor. Even standing on a low fence doubles your range.
Also, yes, it's weird how you can be above someone and seem to be in range, but it just won't trigger until you get a little closer. Still, it works from a decent distance. But as mentioned, hop up onto something a little higher than your target's level, and you can suddenly air assassinate from quite a distance away down a slope or onto a slightly lower level.
The area of effect that triggers the action is like a squashed sphere, or oblate spheroid. Sorta like the teal colored one in this screenshot, but even that's not entirely accurate..

Doesn't work all the time, especially during day-time even with assassins build. It works on gruns, but leutenants and above sometimes do not die even after "double" assassination.
On just a regular assassinate kill, I'm doing around 50k damage at level 20. With a crit on a Critical Assassination, it goes way up to around 100k. Not much can withstand that.
