Run faster?
Is it just me, or do you run faster while tapping A? Im using an XBOX controller and I swear my character runs faster while I tap it.

You dont. It feels like it as the character throws him self in the direction but he also slows down a bit when he gets to the far end of the animation.

I've tried but there doesn't seem to be any real sprint key. I see the same thing as Shred, he leans forward, seems to go a little faster for a second and then just continues and the same speed. You don't want to hold down the shift key when running because that will make him try and climb everything he comes to.

He seems to run a little bit faster anyway, I've never had anyone rum me down.

You can kill the guys hunting you by leading them into the hills and then just keep getting some distance and then using your bow, run and use your bow etc.

from time to time is does seem the Hero runs a bit faster when holding shift... except when i acutally need him to run... then its like he's wading though molassas.

stinks that there is no run/sprint/gallop key.

You can control it with "how much forward" you put the analog stick. (dont know how it is on keyboard and mouse).

Actually, if you are with more items than what you can carry you get slow as a turtle, but using dodge to move make it as fast as you would run (for that short period of time of the dodge) and allow even for fighting while being that slow (tho not recommended, dismantle something to reduce the items count).

If sometimes you start moving way too slow, try to check if you are not under any effect (stun/slow terrain/fire/poison), when under a certain effect your character may move slower (or not at all) but if none of that is happening, check your fps (last thing I can think of).

That is also the case of slow-motion after perfect timed dodge, so everything is almost stopped but you also move a bit slower (I think it is intended so you can have a more clear view and timing to work with your moves and make better use of the slow motion effect after you perform a perfect timed dodge).
No, pressing the "A" button doesn't make you move faster at all. Unlike pressing the "X" button while swimming which will give you a quick boost and consumes more breath if underwater, the "A" button doesn't give any bonus to speed at all. The speed in which you travel is controlled by how far you press the D-pad in the direction you wish to move in. They went with a new and improved "natural" button\d-pad use in this edition of the Assassin's Creed saga. Have to admit though, I am loving this edition of AC more than any of the others. Until this version "Black Flag" was my favorite hands down.
