Can't customize equipment appearance?

Was playing a game with Alexios earlier. Played till level 20 before I got bored with him and decided to give Kassandra a try. I feel like I was always able to customize the appearance of his gear. With Kassandra, I have finished the prologue and destroyed the Athenian Blockade, however, there still doesn't seem to be a way to customize her gear. Is this a bug, is there something that I'm missing, or is there some arbitrary point that this feature is unlocked? Anyone know?

You can't start customizing your appearance until about lvl 10, as I recall.

I just got the ability in this particular playthrough. It was one of 2 events (they happened at the same time): hitting level 8, or recruiting the first crewmate off the island. I'm far more sure it was the level 8 part, as previously it happened elsewhere.

I'm already level 8, and have recruited my first crewmate, and still don't have the ability to customize.

You're doing it correctly, right? Right-clicking on the item in the main inventory panel (not the subpanel for that piece of armor) and going from there?

Have you finished assassinating the Wolf of Sparta for your first big job? It might be tied to that.

yeah, I finished. Also, it turned out that I was full of crap, I was actually level 7 (almost level 8), and as soon as I got to level 8, customization was unlocked. Kind of silly that they make you wait till level 8, but there you have it. Thanks for the responses everyone!

When you play again in Game+ you won't have that problem. I had a great time in my first Game+ playthrough, where I could tackle the map in any order I wanted and decided not to use fast travel but travel everywhere by horse/boat/foot.
