I like to play sneaky as well and I'm having no probs doing it. Position and line of sight is the key.
Loadout 1 - Pirate Set adds 50% to all Assassin ablities, stack these with Crit and Ass damage engravings. Weapon with +Crit and +Assassin damage engravings
Loadout 2 - Agamemnon Set giving +100% burn rate, stack these with +Warr and +Armor, weapon with Fire damage
In the Abilities screen you can also have 2 different sets of 4 Abilities (you can swap them out of Abilities screen using some key too), so with Loadout 1 (Assassin) you want to have Rush Assassination, Hero Strike, and whatever 2 more Abilities you prefer. For Loadout 2 (Warrior) you could go with Bull Rush, Sparta Kick, Ring of Chaos and Second Wind. So, basically only need 6 Abilities maxed.
So, normally you sneak around with your Assassin loadout and Assassin abilities, taking out enemies with normal Assassination, critical Assassination and Rush Assassin. If you get dragged into melee fight without point of escaping the fight, open Inventory and change both your gear to loadout 2 and Abilities to set 2. With all the Assassination bonuses you should be able to kill every non-boss enemy with 1 hit but if you are forced to fight you will do constant Fire damage and set enemies to burn too. Remember, once your weapon has turned into Fire Damage, all your Warrior abilities will do Fire damage too. For example Ring of Chaos will burn AoE, killing groups of enemies almost instantly.
Again, not so much you can do about these at low level since you need to get all that gear first. You can still grab some cheap +Assassin and +Fire equipment from Blacksmiths while leveling, they simply wont be that overly strong as the full sets.
I don't honestly see any point splitting your gear and engavings between multiple damage types, making everything weaker.
And how are you going to use Legendary set items if you aren't max level? If you try to do that, then your gear will become vastly obsolete & ineffective way faster than you can gather enough resources to pay the ludicrous upgrade costs for each piece, which you have to continually pay every time you level up, or else be stuck with obsolete armor.
In other words, advice to "use a Legendary set" isn't viable if you aren't level 99, and with level 99 Legendary gear, before you start trying to do that.
Level of your legendary set is irrelevant, you are not wearing it for protection. Only the weapon and damage modifiers on armor pieces matter, and for that there is no reason to constantly upgrade your legendary sets. If you just stand in same spot, not attacking the enemy, taking damage, hoping for bigger Armor number, you are clearly doing something very wrong.
You can reduce the cooldown of Hero Strike (and all abilities) by 35% btw.
There is not much point having poison or fire in an assassin build, it's a waste of engravings in my opinion. You're focusing on assassin damage. So overpower is kind of a waste of points also.
Having one set of legendary armor to upgrade isn't a big deal, but if you were trying to swap between multiple ones all the time it would be tough.
