One, you do meet the user (and maker) of the first Hidden Blade, if you have the "Legacy of the First Blade" DLC.
Two, the main character's bloodline is important -- LotFB makes this clear.
Three, in the main plot, the main character interferes with the balance between chaos and order, and deals with precursors to the Templars.
Four, there's still the whole Precursors backstory (and explanation for the main character's superhuman abilities).
Darius (the first assassin) also plays a major role in the first DLC.
The game is obviously an Assassin's Creed game because it's deeply rooted in the AC universe with it's Isu lore and modern day story.
your character is a mercenary, both the assassin brotherhood and the creed do not exists yet.
it is still a assassins creed game though, it focuses on the first civilization part of the franchise and contains predecessors of the templar order.
