So, the whales in this game.
I just found out that the whales in this game is just not textures in the water that jumps around now and then but are actually NPC's. Had a quest where i needed to swim and get some treasure from the ocean floor and a Sperm whale came up to me and knocked my character back a bit. What in the actual F?

EDIT: I am 207h in...

Have you never gone under the water to see them? They can bump you around and stuff, it's cool.

No, i just saw them as "artistic" things when you go around with your ship. This time it came up to me (close to the shore also) and just bullied me around.

Wait what? lol. It wasn't until I had beaten the game that I found out that you could kill geese. It wasn't until that I had started the First Blade DLC in NG+ that I found out that chickens take a tenth of your health off (what the heck, man).

Yeah, I really enjoy swimming around amidst the sea life sometimes - rising through spiraling schools of fish, floating feat from a whale as it passes you by and hearing it call out, feeling the darkness of the deep water surround you as you dive for some hidden treasure - and it is that kind of world detail that makes exploration enjoyable.

On my Game+ playthrough (and every playthrough since) I decided to not only to go the full explorer route, turning off quest markers and most of my hud, but also forgo the use of any fast travel - instead, doing all travel by foot, horse, or boat. It takes longer to get places but I discover a lot of stuff I missed the first time through, get to see and explore the world more, and developed an even deeper appreciation for the setting.

When I play 'Valhalla' I'm going to go the explorer route right from the start, I think, so I build that deep appreciation for the world content on my first playthrough.

I went to one of those "Kill the Alpha Animal" spots and the Alpha was a rooster. His harem of chickens didn't like me killing him.

But did you recruit the "Eagle bearer" and his Chickaro to your ship?
