Are both spartans and athenians supposed to be my enemies?
Im a little bit past the first battle and im confused by this game... im siding with the spartans yet i encounter their camps that have to ''complete'' by killing them and so on, oh and also they attack me. Can i keep killing spartans and do their camps without affecting anything story related?

Both Athenians and Spartans don't necessarily have to be your enemies, but they are definitely not your friends. You are just a mercenary who fight as a living in this world. Although your childhood is spent in Larconia, you aren't an actual Spartan by blood either as you'll eventually learn.

I get that, what i dont get is that the game makes you take the side of the spartans with the introduction of the whole power nation thing and big battles, so, there are all these regions controlled by either athenians or spartans, the game tells me that i have to attack the blue ones so they can be turned to red, but what about the already red ones, if i weaken them and go to battle i fight for the blue team now, and the region turns blue? Its just overall very confusing very poor job from obisoft imo.

What's confusing exactly? It's just saying the control of both sides will shift around throughout the game.

Its just bad design man, along with some immersion breaking but hey we are talking about the games that pretty much invented inmmersion breaking as a form of story telling lol

Its Assassins Creed. Your essentialy a Psychopath, killing everything and anything. From Enemies, to civilizians, up to Puppies and Kittens. Most of the time instead of just killing your Target, you end up killing a whole garrison of people just doing their jobs. As a reward you get like 10 pieces of gold and a wooden stick for crafting.

My point is, never ever try to find a reason for killing in Assassins Creed-Games.

Also, if you're a completionist, you're supposed to be burning down farms (grain silos), destroying honest work of peasants who never did anything wrong to you.

True. Though if Alex/Kass has a super strong sense of moral in the first place, being a merc would not have been his/her choice of work.

Do you want everyone to be your enemy?
Kill civilians and guards in plain sight, kill other mercs also in plain sight and dont kill who set the bounty for uyour head, there you go, everywhere you go everyone will be your enemy and at a certain time you will be at the max danger lvl for mercs and depending on where at the world map you are you will be hunted by a small army of mercs, also a small army of guards and many cultists . . . congratulations on starting your 1x50 battle, enjoy.

It is a bit odd when you progress the storyline that you will still be killing Spartans.

I started off thinking one could pick a side, but the game essentially forces you to be neutral merc - which is fine as that's what mercs are - and as you progress you will likely lose the desire to prefer one over the other. There are all sorts of dubious things you can do, or opt not to do if you have a conscience, but if you do most things, you'll be pretty ruthless.

As far as I've seen so far it isn't a problem with the story quests. You can make choices inside those story quests which might have an effect (to kill or not kill or lie or tell truth, etc.) but killing while out exploring, killing leaders, changing the power of a region, attacking camps doesn't change the story. Also, there doesn't seem to be a benefit for changing the world to full Sparta control. Would be cool if it did, but from what I've seen it is two things--the world you explore and the story world. Changing one doesn't seem to affect the other.
As others have said, yes, you were raised in Sparta but now you live as a Mercenary selling your sword to the highest bidder. The world knows this and doesn't seem to hold a grudge. As the story progresses you will find reasons to love or hate Sparta or any other region. Just go with what you feel and it will work out.
You are absolved of your gaming sins. Go forth and kill as you please.

This confused me too because I was used to choosing a faction in RPGs and sticking with that team to the end. I was slinking around a city the other day that I should have been KOS to the guards until I realized that all they're going to do is insult me. It's the ones at military bases and out in the wild that KOS, I think.
