Upgrading legendary after level 50

Ok, so since the new patch the max level is level 99. I wanted to reach level 50 so I can upgrade my legendary armor by going after cultists and receiving the armor already at current level. Long story short, got my favorite legendary armor and now it seems I am stuck to upgrading it every 10 levels or so while gathering the resources to do so.
I was hoping to get my armor and just do the main storyline since I kinda got bored of the game. Anyone else knowing of a better way to get upgraded legendary armor besides waiting to be level 99 to go after cultists?

Get yourself epic gear? Otherwise no, you would be upgrading armor regardless, it doesn't grow with your level automatically.

I don't want frickin epic gear. Was really looking forward to the legendary one

You're doing it the right way already. The game mechanics generally give you enough resources to keep upgrading all your favorite stuff at regular intervals (usually 4-12 level range). Some pieces are more important to keep close to current levels while others can lapse a bit, but that's personal choice of course. Weapons tend to get the more frequent upgrades for me. Break down (instead of selling) non-used weapons if more resources are needed.

If you haven't gotten the mercenary rank to reduce upgrade cost by 50% that should be your main goal. You are still looking at 1400 Obsidian per armor set per upgrade past 4 levels and it still only comes at a 3% to 5% rate but it beats 2800 I suppose. The other materials will come as you try for the Obsidian and you will find you always have plenty. There is no magic formula, it's all scaled, obtained versus used by levels and again, the Obsidian will come at stupid, stingy volumes when compared to that required.

Yeah, figured this much. The adding of extra levels just made the game boring for me and threw me in a grind loop to play the game for ever.
