Upgrade Cost Makes Gear Packs Not Worth It
I bought a gear pack right as I started the game, the upgrade costs are astronomical and not worth buying the gear pack in the first place. :(

Well, its recommened activating the packs when you already are high level. But you are right, if you buy them during the early game you wont use them much till they are obsolete.
BUT, upgrade costs have a max ceiling. So upgrading a level 5 item to 50 is not more expensive then upgrading a level 30 one.
In the late game when you swim in thousands of materials you can easily upgrade rthose sets to max again.

Thanks for the information.

I am still paying several hundred Leather, Iron and obsidian glass. It is still way too much low to mid level. To the point that I regret buying them at all.

For me the game stops being fun around level 12-13 because of this issue. If I had know this I would not put any money in to it.

Unfortunately is intended by Design to force you or make it much more compelling to buy booster packs from their online store LOL

You are exactly right. That is a big problem for me as I feel that I should have gotten something useful for the entire game with what I already bought.

The real problem with mtx is that people buy nice-looking legendary gear and want to wear it constantly just for the looks, so they feel like they have to upgrade it every level.

If you never buy any nice-looking stuff, you don't feel like you need to upgrade so it's not a problem.

that depends on the difficluty, on easy you can easily just upgrade your gear every 12 levels but anyway the further you are in the game the more ressources you get and the upgrade costs also get lowered by your progression in the mercenary tree.

in my opinion the current upgrade costs are fine, i mean you can not expect to upgrade your gear without to collect the ressources first and if you just want to wear your legendary set from the helix store then you dont need all the other gear you get by playing the game anyway so you can dismantle att of that or sell some and dismantle the rest.

you get tons of iron form mines and tons of wood from naval battles, the only ressource which is harder to get is leather which you can buy if you have the money or for which you can hunt or dismantle gear.

i honestly do not think that the upgrade costs would be significantly lower when the game would not have microtransactions.

Maybe this supposed new function to copy the looks of one item to another will solve that anyway.

What about the gear that you can collect along the way that you want to wear because you like the way it looks example all the legendary gear you can collect in this game that makes a whole set it's not just the gear you buy. Not everybody tries to fish for the best stats possible some people actually like the way your character looks you've heard of Dark Souls right also known as fashion Souls same thing here fashion Creed

I never said that I expected to upgrade every level, but I was not able to afford the upgrade and the gear is no longer usable.

I was talking the lower levels, where the upgrade prices are completely out of balance with the amount of resources you can gather. I can tell you reading other forums on this topic I am not alone thinking that the upgrade prices for gear packs purchased with real money are too high.

People do buy this gear for the look, which is the whole purpose of buying it.

If there were not micro-transactions then there would be no need to prevent the gear from leveling up.

The upgrade price seems to be based upon the rarity of the gear. While it is much cheaper for normal gear, it still feels off when you buy gear and it becomes relatively useless fairly quickly.

@aeternali

if there would be no MT's then you still would have to upgrade your gear for a certain cost from which i do not think that it would be significantly lower, i do not know a single game in which your gear upgrades with your level for free and especially in the AC series ressource costs for upgrades are there since a time before MT's came into the singleplayer.

There are plenty of games that when you buy gear with real money you are able to use that gear economically throughout the game. The Witcher Series is a good example but there are many others.

I think this may be partially addressed with the new visualization options.

You can definitely get some current level Epic gear from battles without buying, in my experience Legendary armor is crap anyway.. takes 5 of them for a single bonus, while epic gear has great 3 boosts and a engraving slot. Admittedly I'm not on Nightmare, but I have no problem with Hard and scavenging for epic gear, even ones 10 levels below yours are still good.

Edit: but yeah, on the original point, that would make it really annoying to buy gear you want to just have always at lower level to have to keep upgrading it. Sucks man.
