Daggers and Spears
I am finding these two weapons to be far superior to the others. The speed of the daggers and the reach of the spears seem to make them the cream.

Hammers/Axes are nice for their damage....

Swords don't seem to do enough dmg to make up for the speed loss and the staff seems to fall in between the spear and hammer/sxe (less reach and speed, but slightly more damage)

Maybe I just don't have the right weapons to see the benefits or balance of the other weapons to the Daggers and Spears?

I like daggers for single target and heavy axes for AOE and range (and shields if i dont slot the antishield)

Spears are not bad, but i dont really like their overpower skill
It seems to hit the air more than anything else...

Swords are not that bad, pretty balanced, no real strengh, but no weakness either...and overpower seems to destroy animals for some reasons

I switch a lot just for a change, but i always default back to dagger + heavy axe

the thing is, if u just look at dagger itself, the playstyle is really good. fast hits assisting elemental build up in factions of seconds.

However, there are other builds that can kill opponents much faster and thus changing the weapon types depending on difficulties.

For example, minotaur's axe reduce adrenaline usage by 1 on overpower attacks. combining with sword of Damokles that increase 10% adrenaline gain allows u to basically only use sword and spam overpower attack almost on every enemy which is much much faster in nightmare. you can also use this combo for devastating shots allowing you to do this 4 times in a single moment.

My example is more for nightmare whereby weapon swings can takes forever to down elites and mercs and they usually 1 hit KO me with fire elemental attack. Therefore it is imperative that i forgot dagger and use sword instead because of the legendary effect.

For conquest battles I use an axe. Overpower gives four IHK in a row including the polemarch (hard difficulty). There are some pretty devastating combos. Maybe HLLH? Can't quite remember but it sweeps from side to side.

Why can't you just use the engraving on a dagger?

Haha u asked the trick question.

Because i want to have "weapon damage become fire" as engraving on the sword and i also want legendary engraving of "+10% adrenaline gain from all attack" which is also a legendary engraving on sword of Damokles.

This makes the sword having 2 legendary engraving and fastest adrenaline booster vs a dagger which can only have 1 legendary engraving.

It is totally unwise to sacrifice weapon damage become fire or 10% adrenaline gain combo or any purple weapon prefix for this combo to work.

Offhand have to be using minotaur axe for the 25% crit with the legendary engraving of "-1 adrenaline for overpower attack" and i further engrave with "30% armor penetration"

Anyway this is an adrenaline speed build combination. Of cos you can choose to build other builds.

I am merely pointing out that certain synergy between weapons outweighs dagger.

Looking at legendary dagger, in my early days i use the 40% attack from back dagger but found it to be too situational. Purple daggers would be giving demetrical damage with +25% crit damage engraving to be on par with a overpower spamming build.

i prefer Heavy blunt+ overpower attacks.
Mujokan Nov 6, 2018 @ 11:51pm
Yeah I should have realized that. Didn't read carefully enough. (@Novadove)

I use crit instead of fire with my normal gear. 50% crit chance, +400% damage at full health, return 2% of damage for health. Assassin damage is about 100k. I think the only other legendary engraving I have is fast cooldown.

Recently got another engraving that says +30% elemental damage but takes 30% elemtal damage. I am replacing it wif the 30% armor penetration and see if the effect is better. So far it seems the 30% armor penetration is better because of swing speed vs fix fire proc speed.
Mujokan Nov 6, 2018 @ 11:53pm
How does the penetration engraving affect swing speed?
Novadove Nov 6, 2018 @ 11:55pm
Fire damage is not for killing. It is constant proc dps when your blades are not touching the enemy. Whenever i am 2 meters away from enemy, i am shooting arrow. The fire damage keeps my dps high.

Of course the main focus should still be weapon damage since we all have crit chance when hp full and crit dmg when hp full on our armor =)

Weapon cannot have crit chance except for bow. Otherwise i will do a 100% crit build >_<

The faster you swing, the more damage u do because every swing is a "30% armor penetration" added value damage

Edit: fire proc like every 2 sec? I dont have actual statistic so i donno. Can only count from screen. But u can hit like 3 hits in 2 sec. Thats a lot of damage. Like in the hundred K range

I have crit damage and assassination damage on the melee weapons. Unlike you I'm only playing on hard so DOT isn't so essential. They don't last long enough.

Yeah. Difficulty level affects playstyle.

I love dagger on normal and hard because i can just use anything and slash away.

Heavy weapon is seriously dangerous on nightmare. 1 mistake equals to reloading and frustration for me.

I play on nightmare on only play with swords, just a preference for the animations. Spears are a little op for their range imo, daggers are cool but do not see the reason why they would be better, at higher levels do not need the adrenaline production.

edit: not a god a games, seriously am terrible at darksouls but have found nightmare not to be that hard except for naval fights and still just upgraded my ship till I wasokay.
