The leveling system is grindy.
Old ACs' combat system was slightly better where you don't really need to grind.

We do not seem to be playing the same game. When i started the game i was worrying about grind and being tempted to buy xp upgrades from the store but now that i'm lvl 50 i know that just by following the main story you get all the xp you ever need. If you do side quests you even outlevel the main quest requirements in no time. Absolutely no grind at all!

Unless you're trying to only do the main quest, there should be no grind. No, you can't jump right through the entire main story (stories) without doing side quests but fully half of them are interesting and entertaining, so doing them should not feel like grinding. You will gain all the xp you could ever need if you just play the game - prior to the level max increase people were outleveling the campaign as a matter of course.

bro im level 64, 93 hours and half the map is grayed out and 65% in story, what are you talking about?! go 10 mins roaming on the ship and you will get tons of resources and money or do couple of conquest battles and you will be rewarded alot of XP and can loot gear afterwards from corpses to dismantle or sell.

if you are just rushing the main story then this game is not for you.

But why leveling, the old ACs don't have leveling systems.

Apparently, you missed the memo that Assassin's Creed is an RPG now. You know, since the previous game Origins.

AC Origins is definitely less grinding than Odyssey, you dont need to do sidequest and farm material much like Odyssey and gold can buy almost everything.

alot of previous AC games integrated crafting and resource grinding, its not something new, the only new thing is the RPG element (leveling, weapons, engravings, armor,....).

AC:Origins was the first to be an RPG , i would say introductory RPG mechanics, but odyssey is full RPG without the annoying stuff, and it works very well in my opinion.

If you come to a point where it looks like you need to grind like between Phokis and Athens or between the Naxos Island missions and coming home to Sparta that generally means you need to go take out some Cultists ..... For instance after Phokis go to Euboea, do the side missions and take out a couple of Cultists and you'll be well above the minimum for Athens ..... After Naxos go to Mykonos and do the side missions there, kill a couple more cultists and head for Pephka/Messara do the side missions and get a couple more Cultists and you'll enter Lakonia a level or two above the minimum and should have a level 5 spear

Where Ubisoft dropped the ball is treating all side missions the same when there are certain Side Missions absolutely necessary to complete the Cultist Quest and a the same for the Atlantis Quest ..... They need a way to point out which Side Quests are actually mandatory to complete the Cultist and Atlantis Quests and also point out that ending the family quest is NOT finishing the game and is not the actual ending ..... You don't actually finish the main game until you complete Atlantis

Grinding is the point to having XP in the first place.

Sounds like an improvement if the game makes XP more valuable. Sadly, I may pass on this game simply because I was thoroughly disappointed with Rogue and Syndicate and these new games look less "assassin"-style than the earlier titles. Perhaps the series is overdue for a major name change.

I just happy as hell they dropped those stupid pointless 'animus fragments' that really didn't do anything for you unless you wanted 100% completion ..... Gee after 20 hours collecting all 100+ fragments I get a trophy? BFD

Do you guys feel the grindy feeling is directly related to auto-scaling or the overall gameplay setup i.e. mission structure?

me personally, the game is not grindy at all, its perfectly balanced and it even needs more levels above 70, i have tons of resources, XP and gear, people who rush through the story without doing any single exploration or side missions might feel its grindy, but the game is not designed to just rush the story to be honest.

Anyway, turning Auto Scaling on/off option would be nice to add since im the kind of one hit kill guy
Justiciar- Nov 23, 2018 @ 2:51pm
There's auto-scaling? I take back what I said, then.

Why have levels when there's scaling? That never made any sense ever since TES Oblivion.
