Most powerful pets and benefits of each in Assassin's Creed Odyssey & alpha vs normal pets.
Alpha vs Normal:
Elites are no more powerful in damage or resilience than normal pets once tamed. Even though it looks like they have a bigger health pool, they do not have more health.

The draw back to using alphas is they are larger, blocking your ability to move in tight spaces or dodge in combat. I don't recommend them unless you are all about vanity.
==========================================================

Lion
One of the best fighters against humanoid NPCs. Not good against Lynx, but strong against Wolves. Mediocre against Bears. Big model can block you some times in close quarters.

Tiger
Same as the Lion.

Leopard
They don't fight well against anything. They spend more time yowling than doing any damage. They die faster than anything other than Wolves. They take up more room than they are worth. Get a Lion, Tiger or Lynx if cats are your thing. Sometimes jump on the backs of enemies. Not my favorite.

Lynx
Highly mobile. Great for distracting enemies but damage is lower. This is the only animal that regularly jumps on the back of humanoid NPCs completely incapacitating them for the duration of 5 seconds while also doing damage. Caveat is this ability is random and they don't use it often enough.

They move so much dodging and jumping that they do less damage over time. This is a great distraction, but if you have points in your pet you lose out on damage from those points.

Lynx are small. So it is very easy to take them anywhere. Lynx are my favorite pet because their mobility in combat often keeps them alive the longest.

Wolf
Easily found everywhere in the world, they are a great filler trash pet. I will always untame and grab a Lion, Tiger or Lynx when I come across them.
Very mobile so they dodge well. Do great damage, but health pool is lacking. Even damage on NPCs and animals alike.

Bear
Too big to comfortably take into confined areas making them not the best choice in versatility. They tank well in fights, but their health pool is the same as a Lion or Tiger. Their damage is a bit less because they are so slow. Their ability to dodge is poor due to slow movement mechanics. Might as well get a Lion!

I don't recommend putting points into pets, but at some point in the game you get an engraving that gives 100% health and 50% damage and it is kick ass.

Yeah i experience that too. At least they don't die from it unless you are in combat.

Tame the Alpha Lion on the island of Poseidon. Does not die often.

I have. Use to parade around with that big lug everywhere. Loved him. But truth is the Lynx lives just as long and I don't have him in my way every time I'm in a fight or tight spaces.

I did some testing and the elites have no more health in combat than any other normal pet.

I'm pretty sure they made one.

Thanks for the write up!

And yeah my favorite thus far is the Lynx. He survives groups of enemies well. Has that stun lock ability which helps too.

I totally agree Eminem, the Lynx is my favorite too!

I was searching the forum if there was a snow leopard pet, but nope it's a merc name. And found this thread....

A tiger in Odyssey? Where? I never saw any.

For comment on Alpha not having more HP, I have a serious doubt, they have obviously more HP and do more damages. It doesn't mean they are just better pet because:
- They are bigger/too big apart Alpha Wolf bit it is very weak and dies very fast.
- They have a bug or deliberate design annoyance in their following you movement, often moving further than character or horse and blocking path.

I wish there was an Alpha Lynx because they are really special as is quoting OP, but nope they still can't match life duration of an Alpha bear or lion, even less damages.

Pet damages isn't just about damages but also related to pet life duration because a pet 1v1 with quite more damages gives quite more chance to the pet to win the 1v1 without you having to bother.

EDIT:
OK Op seems very sure of Alpha pet not having more HP or more damages, so ok I need check, perhaps it's been a game change or bug fix past OP post.
