Parkour?
Ok, This is something that has been bugging me for quite some time and I just wanted to hear other opinions on the matter. I don't really care about the combat changes and how it is different from the previous AC games, I am more focused on the parkour, or lack of it in these last 2 games. I don't care about realism or anything, if all games were 100% real and happened in real life they would be pretty boring, which leads me to the main topic of where the parkour went in previous games? It wouldn't have to be a major change just let the main character do a flip every once in a while while jumping, in the old AC games it made you feel like a badass, running across rooftops, doing flips and spins along the way, or in syndicate where it had massive buildings and gave you a grappling hook to let you traverse them instantly, sorry for rambling I guess what I am trying to say is why they removed like 99% of the parkour from the franchise when it worked so well in previous titles like unity or syndicate?

Because this is before all that Assassin-y training that the real assassins get later on. These protagonists are just really athletic, without formal training. My 2 cents.

yeah this one even before the very first ac story done.

Yeah I realize all of your points and I get it and they make alot of sense but the parkour IMO is what made the game into its own besides the assassinations of course, it made you feel powerful, it made you feel like a badass, it made you feel like a god and no one could stop you, now in this game its like "hey alexios do something cool" and he will just do a boring jump

hehe the spears upgrading programs is teaching char. body how to do moves over time....probably dowm the line future generations are taught by ppl not the computer and that where what we know comes into play

I don't know, in my opinion the current parkour system seems like a hollow shell of itself, you got the occasional slide under objects, and you have the eagle synchronize jump, thats pretty much it, there is nothing building off of that

You're not the only one who feels that way. I think it also has a lot to do with city density as well. Sure Athens is big, but most of these cities are wide and flat. A lot of times I can't jump on rooftops because the roads are too big or the buildings are too far away from each other and there isn't even a rope connecting them (like in the previous games, including origins). There's also wide spaces with no buildings inside cities as well. It's just much easier just to run on the ground directly to the waypoint with some occasional climbing. It's a shame because parkour used to feel like a game itself, now it feels like a tool.

Yeah, I get that and it wasn’t exactly what I was thinking, it was a part of what I was thinking but I meant more like the climbing aspect of it, instead of instantaneous leaps across objects when climbing mountains it could be remade into one fluid movement, I dont know it is just one of my main gripes about this game but I agree that it is much more faster to just run to the objective but assassins creed is built on assassinations, parkour, and the creed, at least in my opinion, those 3 things made this franchise into its own and they practicially removed 1 of them.

It's a shift in the focus of the game's mechanics is what it is. The focus now is on grounded combat, with some arrow sniping of course, but the melee aspects and short drops, etc. Not sure why, and I do miss it somewhat, because it was just so cool to climb around on something and "own the rooftops" as my playground.

I have no idea why they decided to shift away from the rooftop escapades, but I can see why the parkour was phased out. We could still run around on the rooftops of adjacent buildings though. Would like to see that return, even if they don't actually put the parkour aspects back in for story/lore reasons...

Probably because of all the people that would complain that "since we can run around on the rooftops now so why can't we parkour???" Can't please everybody. :-(

That is technically parkour yes but compare this games parkour to previous titles like syndicate, black flag, or the one with the best parkour IMO unity, huge difference, in this game it is there yes, but there is no pizzazz, its just bland running and climbing, in the others you did flips, turns, whatever you wanted to do and it worked beautifully

The difference is obvious, no doubt about it. I wonder if anyone from Ubi has ever made an official statement about why they shifted away from it. Would be curious to know..

Compare this to Unity's parkour lol! Its funny how bad unity was when it first released but look at it now.

Its crazy how bad the Assassins Creed games now are at being Assassins Creed games.

i use the bow like a pistol myself, hahah js

also to OP, yah the FEEL of the worlds in the past 2 games is different not having the fine control in direction of movement on top of a reduction of parkour "moves"
