Faction Alignment....
....what I don't understand is if I am fighting for Sparta against the Athenians in battles, why is it if I go to a Sparta encampment do they attack me? Surely I have that plate thingy from dear brother which shows I'm working on the side of the Spartans??

Sides do not matter at all. Sadly there is no faction reputation system in game, so both groups will attack on sight if you enter restricted areas.

You're just a mercenary. They don't care who you are or what you've done; if you enter a restricted area, they will attack on sight. When you fight for a side, you're just told which color shirt to kill, and they'll throw some drachmae and loot your way.

I say "gladly" not sadly.

More freedom this way.

Most of my obsidian is earned from contract quests to kill people and ships on both sides. Being restricted to one side would cut my earnings in half. Then I would be sad.

The only faction you can join are:
The Sisters of Artemis... (The Huntress') Complete the Alpha Animal hunts, travel to Chios and kill their leader to take over leadership... all Huntress' and their encampments across the world will be allied to you. You must fight their leader and kill her, if you refuse you miss the opportunity, there is no gain for not killing her.

yup, this game DOES have a crude faction system as proven by the sisters. the thing is that just becausr you helped soldiers in the past doesn't mean you won't be working against them later. I mean they see a mercenary in the middle of a senstive camp.. what conclusion should they draw?

Exactly. I wonder how some people on this board feel about letting contractors have free access to their house and belongings just because they fixed the plumbing?

That's all good to know....I understand the fact that you are a mercenary and either side would attack. What would be nice is gameplay options to tailor all this so you can really play the game the way you want to play.....so if you want friendly faction camps to allow you access, then give the option to do so, so then only enemy factions would attack. Just a thought, which will never happen of course, but it would change the replayability of the game enormously!

Just out of interest, why would you want friendly camps?

The purpose of the camps is to loot them and kill captains.

Can't really do that if they're friendly now, can you?
