Game seems to be pushing same sex romances.
Not that I have an issue with this. I however am playing as Kassandra and every time I talk to Odessa there are romance comment options in every reply.

Frankly, I think they should have left it out completely unless it has some actual effect in the game.

Say you're playing as Alexios... Romance some chick, later you have her hounding you for child support, maybe a divorce attorney hunting you down looking to serve you with papers, maybe a ticked off husband to deal with, ticked off father, brother, etc...

Play as Kasandra, you may get knocked up... you might wind up with some freak stalking you... ticked off pack of lesbians chasing you down because you put the moves on someone elses b**ch... etc.

But the way "romance" was done in this game? What a friggin joke! And frankly, the word "Romance" should not even be used in relation to the AC Odyssey attempt at it... It's "romance" written by some pre-pubescent 12 year old... how is this "Romance": ?

Random town cooze: Oh Mistheos, please, will you run to this bandit camp and get my earrings back?

Alexios: (In a horribly poor fake Greek accent that sounds more southern California Mexican than Greek) "Sure... I will kill them all"

[Alexios returns 20 minutes later with the earrings]

Random town cooze: "Mistheos, did you kill the bandits and get my earrings?"

Alexios: (In prementioned pathetic attempt at accent) "Every last one of them! Can I see your boobs?"

[Cut to black screen where you can hear them both fake laughing like morons on prozac]

Wow... pretty romantic Ubisoft.... glad you put that in there.

I can't believe they actually PAYED someone to come up with that drivel. Proof Positive you don't need to be overly talented to get a writing job at Ubisoft.

My nephiew could write it better, and he's 7 years old and still thinks girls are "yucky".

Ummm...Alexios was played by an actual greek voice actor, as was much of the cast.

Actually, they hired Greek actors, and "people with Greek Ancestry", that's quoted from the very link you provided. And I have to say, I have German, Irish, Polish and Algonquain ancestry, but I can't speak a lick of German, Gaelic, Polish or Algonquain. I can't even do an accent from any of those 4 convincingly.

Greek Ancestry does not "translate" (pardon the pun) to a Greek Accent.

And keep in mind, we're talking about a company who hires writers who's idea of "romance" is "Here's the item you wanted. Hey, let's do it on your floor." So you'll forgive me if my faith in said company being able to effectively judge a potential actor's "Greek Accent" as authentic or not, to be less than absolute.

But, on the positive side, if they decide to do the next Assassins Creed in Germany, Ireland, or Poland, I could probably pick up some voice acting work.

My Kassandra is p much lesbian. None of the dudes courting her have been up to snuff.

I forgive them, given it's their first attempt, but I wish there was an overall romance, like in Mass Effect where you worked towards it and it carried over though the games.

It'd be nice if overlapping romances conflicted with each other.

Instead you can pretty much sleep with anyone and everyone without consequence. Kinda lazy really. If they wanna do the whole RPG thing they're gonna have to step it up!

He was literally born in Athens. How much more Greek do you want him to be?

I was speaking in general. Some of the NPC's you interact with, I swear some sound Hispanic... even had one in one of the earlier towns that sounded more Russian than anything. Of course for the main actors, they're going to try harder, get people that actually DO speak Greek and with the accent. But on more than a few NPC's in towns, they can't even be accused of "phoning it in", it's like no effort was even made.

Honestly it wouldn't suprise me if some random townie on a lute starts belting out a George Strait song in flawless Georgia Southern Drawl.

Can see it now, stroll into Athens, and there's Hermiclese strumming a harp singing "Alllllll my ex's live in Texas......."

No problem with historical accuracy in this case - Sappho's poetry is where the term 'lesbian' first arose + gay relationships were preferred amongst Greek men to the point women (except sometimes courtesans) were looked down on. It was thought 'educational' + an aid to military discipline and unit cohesiveness.

I mean Odysseus slept with 2 different goddesses and presumably his wife in The Odyssey...

I don't mind the inclusion of casual sex in the game and it's hardly a new feature that an rpg should have rampant casual smashing, but it would have been nice to have a mixture of the two - at least 1 (or preferably 2) potential fleshed out love interests in the game of each gender. There are a couple which evolve more than the "1 mission lovin'" design but they never really pay off, either; always falling short of becoming something more meaningful.

To be fair, even Bioware didn't do much more in Dragon Age origins. There were some flirt dialogs, then the big love scene fade to black, and that was pretty much it until the end. Considering this is the first attempt, and the setting is what it is, it's a good start. The big difference there is that these were companions that traveled, fought and camped with you so you had access to them full time.

I mean we're bouncing all over the greek world, never staying in one place, so at least the landlocked lovers make sense as a fling. The ones you can recruit should have more interaction as part of your crew however, and hopefully they'll improve on this feature in future games. Maybe even let one crew member join us out in the world, all of them can fight.

This is Ancient Greece... everyone in Ancient Greece was bisexual. Alexander the Great basically had husbands

Actually it's not a "first attempt". Go back to AC2 Brotherhood. Ezio had a "romance" option with that married countess (Been a while, I forget her name) if you succeded, she later meets you at your uncle Mario's villa, and there's a pretty good scene where Ezio goes to get a bath and she disrobes to join him, then they head off to bed. It doesn't really show anything beyond suggestive, but it's still light-years more "fleshed out" and better written than anything in Origins and Odyssey.

If they were able to do it properly that many years ago, the fact that they're incapable of doing anything more than this current comedic and pathetic attempt reinforces my previous statements that the current bunch are nothing more than hacks PRETENDING at being "writers".

there are if you explore the game definatly hints at more fleshed out relationships.. thing is... they tend to end badly for poor Kassandra. Making complex relationships work is simply something Kassandra/Alexios has trouble with and honestly... that's realistic. this is a character whose constantly on the move, killing people for money, as a child they where THROWN FROM A MOUNTAIN by the person they trusted most (it seemed pretty clear to me their father was their strongest family relationship as a child) they where then found and raised by a con man etc. to be blunt, Kassandra/Alexios is proably a pretty screwed up person

This is where the term "Greek Orgy" came from. Everyone is Greece back then was super sexy and very randy. They just give you the ability to romance anyone regardless to be more inclusive to catch less backlash from that 0.0001% part of the internet.

For a single character, with only one option for that type of encounter (by your description, i didn'tplay any ac outside of syndicate a little and trying liberation on pc ugh), there is much less challenge than 2 different characters and 10 romantic options with varied genders. On this scale, that is problematic. So to have what we got, isn't awful. And it's still better than Skyrim or Fallout4. Honestly noone is going to do it like Bioware (it's kind of their niche really) especially not in their first foray into character gender options and huge open world rpg. I'm shocked we jad romance at all tbh.

I'm a huge fan of romamces in games, it's even a selling point for me in an rpg. But by the end of the game, i saw why it would make sense for the PC to not commit, and in the setting considering their "job" and lack of stability it made sense as well.
