What is up with spears?
Okay so, up to this point, I never realised a design decision that Ubi made with spears. It wasn't until I started using a spear called Spartan Spear, which had bright colors that something became apparent.

Spears actually are way longer than how they look when holstered. Its as if the spear collapses when holstered and extends when in combat.

Now either I was way to engrossed playing the game to pay attention or they did a really good job in camouflaging it, except for that one spear that opened my eyes.

Anyone knows why this decision was made? I am assuming clipping issues.

I do not know but that's how spears and staffs worked in origins too. :)

Oh okay did not know that. I mean its a non issue really, I still use them even though I cannot unsee what has been seen. Still, I wonder why take such an approach to them.

I imagine that was done to make it fit more easily on the character model but in combat the benefit of such weapons is reach, so they had to actually make the weapon longer once drawn.

I noticed this in Origins too, it's slightly distracting. No game has done spears better than Nioh in my opinion.

Yeah makes sense, because it seems they went with the longest known dory spear size, which averaged between 2-3 meters, so I guess the clipping issues were just too much.

Ha! I know! Some spears in Odyssey can camouflage it pretty well, but there are some that are just too hard to ignore. Will have to check videos of Nioh. I guess thats the crux of implementing spears in video games, they either look way out of place and have massive clipping issues, or you try to compromise as Ubi did.
