In this situation it's literally impossible not to fight near them - you're talking to an NPC in a market, a thug jumps you, the fight starts, all the civilians pick up weapons. Killing them isn't a problem, they go down in like two hits, but bounty racks up quickly.
If they attack, just run, make the guards chase you to a quiet place. Then fight.
Okay if you had read my post you would know that I had done none of these things, and they attacked regardless.
are you in Achaia or phokis at this point ? If you are wanted man in that region they might be aggressive towards you.
Like I said, I was doing the Swordfish quest ark, so I was in Messara.
so i assume that you already clear your bounty ? I mean, either kill the sponsor or pay the bounty ?
Civilians don't attack you at random if you have a bounty, though - only mercenaries will come after you. The problem isn't that they attack without provocation, it's that the wrong things provoke them.
kill the gards, don't hit the civils, then run away for 3 minutes and they will stop being hostile and no bounties
Especially when you are at the boat area questioning the old fisher.
And then there will be an investigation scene.
And then there is a lady want to search for her husband.
This quest could be a reference to the movie "swordfish" even the characteristic of person you are lookin is similar in the movie.
I'm not talking about fighting with guards, though, I'm talking about situations where you get attacked by bandits or thugs as part of a questline.
maybe some want to play the hero, maybe they don't like strangers mercenaries in their town, maybe they think you are the one that making trouble, maybe some thinks you are the bad guy and don't guess the others are bandits, ... there's plenty of reasons,
If that's the case, if this is intended behaviour, then that's a bad system, being attacked at random with no warning, rhyme, or reason by people you're not supposed to fight isn't a fun mechanic.
