Deep sea diving

I noticed that the farther down you swin to get chests, the more oxygen you consume and I barely make it back to the surface. Is this intended or is there some ability later on in the game that makes this a bit easier?

I don't think there is a dive bell like black flag in this game. I really have no idea, but how deep are going you?

I've gone as far as 150m

Its designed to create tension. Fast swim will also consume more.

You can get a legendary Trident that allows you to breathe under water.

As this was necroed i will put this here anyway.
Or nowdays get the Poseidons trident with waterbreathing and swap it in when you dive.
