My controller works fine with every other game I have. Beyond that, the freezing problem was an issue for me before the controller started acting up. After at most 10 or 15 minutes the game would lock up last night. Today the problem starts almost instantly.
I don't have a cord option for it, but it seems fairly ridiculous that a game like this wouldn't be able to support one of the most popular controller on the market.
In my case, my alkaline battery was lower than the game would allow it to be run with. It was still functioning, but I have noticed that Assassin's Creed Odyssey generally sucks more power out of what you are using it for than most other games. Even my gaming laptop LOSES about 10-15% of it's charge while plugged in if I run the game for too long. I assume it is putting the same strain on the controller. So when your battery starts getting low, even if not dead, the game doesn't sit with it. I suggest getting XInput Battery Meter to monitor your charge on the controller. It works pretty great.
Its annoying cuz it becomes completely unresponsive and really annoying, so make sure the batteries have plenty of charge.
When it happens for me I take on battery out and put it back in. It helps somewhat. Otherwise, just put new one in.
