HDR settings for LG OLED TV
hi,

i put here the TV and PC settings in order to have HDR on your OLED TV , this is valid for LG 6 or 7 series, i don't know for the new ones , but this should be near. I have made some tweaking on my settings compared to ACOrigin. Once again , Ubi missed the equilibrium between night and day, a day luminosity setting and a night luminosity setting would be welcomed to have darker nights.
so here we go :
PC:
win 10 / latest version,
on your graphic card settings : set it to 4:2:2 YUV for 4K , 4:4:4 for 2K , LG tv does not support 4:4:4 in HDR 4K, RGB444 works also, but i prefer always yuv for the contrast bandwith plus TV works in YUV.
gamma setting in win10 left as default.
win10 extended colors disabled (the game will set it for us)
unless you have a 1080ti+ , use 1080p resolution, the tv will extrapolate to 4K by its own cpu.
my conf : 6700K + amd RX480

for users with old 5.1 amplifier that does not support HDR passthrough, here is the workaround: connect the HDMI to the TV set directly. Problem: we cannot use 5.1 channels only stereo. So the trick is to use a second hdmi cable to your amp and set the audio output to this second "fake" monitor as 5.1 channels (or more if you have). Caution , win10 must be set as extended display and not as duplicate display, because in that last case it would apply the worst setting and will force your graphic card to 8bit colors. while in extended display, each screen will have its own config : so 10bit 4:4:4 YUV for TV and 8bit for the old amplifier.

launch AC:Odyssey set it to HDR.
the OLED tv is recognizing the signal and must show you a nice HDR icon for 5 sec on top right.
now we have 4 settings available: HDR standard, HDR bright, HDR vivid, HDR game.

HDR game mode is optimized for latency, so this is the one to use , BUT , if you have low fps , lets say 30-50ies , you may prefer standard/bright one , since you can activate the frame smoothing algorithms, it s blurrier but make it really smooth , in particular if you force 30im/s , personnaly i set the refresh to 50im/s to have stable and quieter play. Moreover if you let the default 60Hz refresh setting, the HDR game mode locks (i don't know why) some advanced setting we want to change. While forcing 50Hz refresh mode in the game ; the HDR game mode advanced setting are unlocked.

HDR standard mode TV settings
OLED 100 (max)
Contrast 95 ( max is burning whites)
Brightness 50
Color Temp W45
sharpness 12 (not more)
Color 46
tint G3

Advanced setting
dynamic contrast :off (low is burning white on stones by daylight)
dynamic color : off
Color : normal (not extended it makes things too flashy sometimes)
extended resolution: low or medium (this is the interpolation algorithm on the 4K tv)
Image Options:
black level : low

in the game :
luminosity : 40 (or 50 , i prefer 40)
HDR setting : 1000 / 180 , 1000/150 is the right value but boosting the white point makes surfaces in the shadow more radiant and give a fantastic photorealistic look, at a price of a very little white burning on stones in full sun.

Thanks for info.... One of the things I did not know... Is that there was different settings for HDR... Looks like I had defaulted to HDR bright for my LG OLED... Which seemed to be a bit too bright... Setting on HDR standard... seems like the setting for general use... I'll try out HDR game... when I launch game.

HDR bright is burning whites too much , i use hdr standard, and in full night room , hdr game is less hurting eyes , but with less contrast effect and no photographic wow effect. i found also that putting 50 for luminosity is wrong for nights in the game , the grey tones are a bit washed. That s why i d like to have an darker night slider in the options. Because 50 luminosity is better for daylight in the game.

There some bad information here. For 4K you should always take 444 8bit over 422 10 bit. Secondly even if it's a TV the outpit should be RGB not YUV because RGB is how computers work. YUV is for movies that how your Blu-ray player works. PC should always be RGB Limited

You have to go into windows screen options first an activate it there.

Hi , i agree , for 4k 444 is better for sure , but that s not the subject , here we want to activate HDR; so on old B6 LG oled tv , you cannot have 4K 444 10 bits in 60Hz only 30Hz, it does not support it. So we have to backup to a 422 setting for 4K. i personnally play in 1080p yuv444, that suits more my RX480,and with the distance to the tv of 3m, i can barely see the difference in resolution.

About rgb vs yuv: oled tv is working in Yuv so it will do the transformation between color spaces anyway. Trying both modes and my final preference was to force yuv on the gpu , with more contrast as a result.

about windows hdr mode , while it is necessary to activate the window hdr setting for some games like tomb raider, it is not mandatory for AC. Did you set 10 bit rendering in you gpu setting ? because this is mandatory.
