both depending on how i want it depending on the situation, it took me 45 minutes to find a island in exploration mode and i only found it because i turnd on the guided mode to see where it is.

i admit that it is my own fault that i searched it at the wrong place for 45 minutes though ( i first fought maybe i have a bug and are at the right place already but i was at a totally wrong place).

Going to try out the exploration mode, have all the time I need and its great for immersion purposes.

I did the same. Make sure to get skill in assasin tree that allows to see items when holding "v". Further, disable all icons on your map (press tab).
With minimal hud you will still see objective markers so no hud is truely mandatory.
