Should I play AC Origins before Odyssey?
(Well here goes, first time making any sort of post on the steam forums, sorry if this isn't in the right place.)

So the last AC game I played was Syndicate. While I enjoyed it, the story underwhelmed me in a lot of ways. I really loved the setting, the main characters, and I connected well with Jacob Frye, but the main story's ending felt a bit flat to me, tpo the point that I didn't even purchase the Jack the Ripper DLC--and anyone who knows me knows I love Victorian Era anything including good ol' Jackaboy.

While I liked Syndicate, it didn't really make me want to continue playing, and while I also have an equal love for Egyptian history and mthyology, ACE Origins' trailers didn't really pull me in, either. I felt a lacking, and so I never got the game. But now, AC Odyssey has pulled me back in and I've felt so excited for it--only, I'm hesitant, because part of me wants to give Origins a shot, but another part of me is impatient. Greek Mythology is the basis of my spiritual practices (wiccan) and so I feel a very very personal connection to this new game, already.

My main concern, aside from spoilers, is that skipping Origins and diving right into Odyssey would leave a gap in the story/lore, and therefore detract from the overall experience. I've also been curious about all of the Modern Times story stuff going on with Juno (I think?) and Abstergo, and I don't know if skipping Origins will leave a gap in that as well.

Long story short, I'm torn, and would like (spoiler free!) opinions.

I've not played odyssey, so I have 0 idea how much the story ties into origins. That being said, origins is a great experience with an ok story (I liked it.) but the puzzles/exploration were top notch. I am hoping the main female in this ties into the story eventually.

They are close to the same, with different time lines. Odessey took 3 steps forward and half step back, so its an improvement. Im sure things will get worked out as patches are introduced. For me it would come to what experince are you in the mood for. Greek or Egyptian, you dont need one over the other so to speak. Both games are good and you will get your money worth out of them.

Odyssey comes out in 23 mins. I saw if you can finish Origins in that time then do it!

Personally, I’d just skip Origins and play this one instead. You won’t really miss out on much story-wise. And that’s coming from someone who thoroughly enjoyed Origins to the point I completed it to 100%.

I can see someone getting burned out if they had to play both games after another because they have very similar looks (although Odyssey is more varied and looks obviously Greek instead of Egyptian).

Odyssey feels more like a true RPG where your various skills and choices actually matter. Origins was fantastic in its own way but is ultimately a much more ‘hollow’ experience.

Apparently Layla has some connections to AC Syndicate in some form... She mentions the 'twins' when you are in the real world and interact with the window.

Well, being a wiccan, you probably should consult an oracle. If that is not possible, then perhaps tea leaves might suffice. If all else fails sacrifice a head of lettuce. Odyssey happens centuries before origine, so you won't miss anything. The "modern times" story is meaningless.

i have played odyssey for 2 days now (yes i got early acces on uplay not steam) so far as i can tell the 2 games are not really connected to eachother (except from the gameplay mechanics)

origins is an awesome game, but you dont need to play it in order to play this one. Origins does a really good job in the first few hours of setting up the origin of the people who make the creed, and then in the final few hours really showing how it all came to be, everything else in the middle of the game, 20 hours or so, is just filler poltics. Not that that is a bad thing at all just doesnt contribute to the overall plot of the series so much. The only thing that you will miss is the modern day plot, which was only about 15 minutes in the whole 40 hour story. It intoduces a new character and clears up some fan theories, and then the ending sets up future games. If you arent a die hard fan of the lore and follow the story close then origins probably wont matter. Now with that being said, there might be things in AC:OD that may reference origins, im sure there will be, but i doubt it will be anything major. I have heard that this game has less modern day story than origins which is sad imo. As a die hard fan since 2007, and as someone who has played everything, I can say that origins was a great open world, but the game had some flaws. At its best there were moments in the final hours of the game that made me cry, like the origin of the assassins logo and the character development and where some of it ends up, it was powerful and well thought out, but the side quest are required to unlock story quest and can be a bit of a grind at times to get to those awesome moments. If the origins of the brotehrhood and the templers isnt something you care about, and or you don't enjoy eygpt, then you can skip it. AC series was fine before origins explanations, but it is really cool seeing how it all came to be imo. Hope this helped, tried not to spoil anything, hope you enjoy the game!

Probably not.. but why not getting Origins instead? It will be all the same to you, but Origins is probably cheaper by now.
