How do i convince my parents to let me buy a new gpu to play this game!?
so i currently have a gtx 970 and at the moment its barely playing the game at 60fps at 1080p on the lowest of the low settings, and still im having small fps drops. im not saying the game is unplayable just annoying. and so im looking to buy a new graphics card. I have the budget to buy a gtx1080 ti and so my next problem is being able to convince my parents to let me buy this thing at its crazy price. The thing is they know nothing about pc parts and there worth and so when i came up to them to talk about the price I was thinking of spending they were 100% against it. So please if anyone can tell me how i could be able to convince them to let me be able to buy this new gpu, ive already told them that its an investment if i buy it that would mean i could even sell my old gpu but i still havent got anything from them. so yeah it is all of my OWN money so if anyone would be able to help that would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: thanks for the barrage of replies everyone! I didn't expect such of a big response. we might also have some confusion from people because i may have not put enough info in the topic (I didnt spend much time on it) So even though i stated that i wanted to upgrade to a 1080, people are either taking it as im a spoiled young teenager jumping to spend money on things i apparently dont understand too well, or that the 1080 wont be as much of an upgrade considering the rest of my specs. I fully understand what im doing and am only looking for advice to help with my only question, so please i just want a friendly environment and to stop being considered "a spoiled brat" for spending money ive earned from working my own job?. But thank you everyone again who's trying to help!

Hmm.... I can't tell you exactly how to persuade your parents since I would need more information. Best bet just to go for one of the earlier versions instead of the gtx1080TI. Just get the 1060 or 1070 and compare the price with them and see if they'll allow you to buy those instead of the 1080TI. Unless you're a really good kid with straight As and ur parents understand gaming, you're not going to convince them to pay $1,000 for a pc part.
i mean i would get an older gpu its just that id rather do a big investment and to help make my pc a bit more future proof for the next 4 or even more years. instead of spending a couple hundred less in the next couple years when i need to upgrade again. and even if i did show them earlier models they wouldnt really understand why the prices are so much and why the 1080 is worth its value. but thanks anyway!

play at 30 fps or 45fps, i have a 1080 and play Origins at 45 fps ultra high 1440p (4790K is holding it back a lot) and its smooth as butter with setting maximum pre rendered frames set to 3.

Befor droping a load of cash into a 1080 ti is your cpu any good ? soz to be bringer of bad news but maybe time for total pc re build.

Iv got i5 8600 16gb ram and msi 1080 game runs max settings at 2560x1440 this is not a brag but base line for good pc build. may be worth saving the extra money costs to get 1080 ti get new board cpu and gfx

Or as Andy says get console save for pc build (Bonus Red dead coming end of month)

Best of luck it is horrid when ya pc starts to struggle :KSad:

I personally ended up setlling on 30fps myself... so that's definitely an option. This game has a solid 30fps mode.. if you just set the frame limiter to 30... it works way better than most PC games... including AC Odyssey. Controls remain responsive and the game maintains good frame pacing with vsync enabled.

Honestly this IS a great time to buy a GTX1080 (non ti), no joke. I just did that myself as well as a few friends along with a CPU upgrade in an i7-8700K.. I got the ROG GTX1080SC at $525 on Amazon and it works great, it's a fast/powerful card with plenty of horsepower for years to come. The 1080ti are still a $200+/- more, not worth it right now IMHO if you are trying to save $. That 1080SC GPU is in the sweet spot right now since the 2080 cards just were released. Also important to tell you're parents is if you wait too long 1080s will actually start to go up in price since they will begin being harder and harder to find, so demand will drive prices up. Yes you can wait longer and prices should come down a bit more but there will be that point when demand causes them to go back up.

You can honestly tell your parents buying now (now the key word) will save you money in the long haul since you will get a very fast card for relatively little money do to the scenario described above..

Keep in mind that the GTX1080 will serve you really well for a long time (in PC years), by the time it's starting to feel "slow" you will be able to get a GTX 2080 for about the same dollar amount, probably 3 to 5 years out or so. Anyway, the point is this truly is an optimal time to spend money on a GPU upgrade IF you chose the right card.

Good luck!

have you tried threatening physical violence? it helps if you're holding a weapon, like a kitchen knife.

you probably wouldn't get much of a performance increase, if any, by putting in a 1080ti when you have that cpu. the 970 is probably already bottlenecked.
Roc 2018 年 10 月 4 日 上午 2:38
Just buy it, it's your money. Don't think twice about it either. Life is too short to drop FPS uneccesarily in your favourite hobby. Just make sure you honour your RL commitments.

so i should be looking into a cpu upgrade instead?

(Isn't the game rated 18+ or something anyway ?)

Upgrading your GPU won't magically make your whole PC better, as said above, your CPU will be a bottleneck and spending a lot on a high-end GPU that you won't even use properly is wasting money.

If you want a decent gaming PC, you gotta get decent parts, not just a good GPU.
I would advise against buying this kind of stuff yourself if you don't know what you're doing (and it seems that's the case here).

Either go with a console (cheaper and hassle-free though games are more expensive overall), or start doing enough research to know exactly what you're looking for to upgrade your PC (or build a complete new one).

You could always try seeking advice for some mid-range PC Building around internet, but you gotta take care about the infos you get, not everyone you'll meet is a PC building specialist, and some people just spread misinformation without even knowing.

As for convincing your parents, we don't know them, and we don't even know you. We don't know how much money YOU actually have nor if it's a good idea for you to spend it on a PC right now.
And if they don't know anything about that kind of stuff, you're not gonna convince them without explaining to them why is it "necessary" and why YOU need it.

With the little info you gave us, I'd honestly just tell you to get a console instead of spending money on things you don't really know about. That's a cheaper and safer purchase (though you'll be limited to 30fps).

i really understand what you mean and wanna thank you for caring about what i should actually do. but heres the thing, i wouldnt say im an expert at knowing everything there is to know about pc's but i wouldnt say i have no idea what im doing either. i feel like i have good enough knowledge to understand what im going through and i fully understand that pc's have to be upgraded as a whole to run faster, not simply one piece. i understand that my cpu will bottleneck the 1080ti because yes believe it or not i did some research and found that old hardware doesnt work perfectly with the new hardware. And so yes i understand that i will have to upgrade my cpu down the line to get the most out of my gpu but right now i am only looking to play games at high settings at only 1080p and at 60fps. With the hardware i have now i understand i will be able to achieve these settings with the new gpu even thought its being bottlenecked. so yes i Understand it might be smarter to get a better cpu first but then again im not looking to play anything more than 60fps at 1080p, because people now are using 1080's to play at 4k, so even know it might be overkill for what i want. I simply just want a future proof pc that will last me. And to top it all off i only just came from ps4 a couple months ago and so i dont think it would be a good idea to go back to ps4 and then have to buy the new ps5 in the next whenever few years. id much rather continue to be on pc. thanks for the reply!
