this is most likely a case of not seeing the forest for all the trees, but where in the hell are the 5 spartan boats that the npc is asking me to destroy?, im only seeing Athenian ships outside the harbor

You need to destroy 5 spartan boats while using the Adrestia.

Red sails with /\ on them.

thing is, there are zero Spartan ships in the sea area, only Athenians, merchants and pirates

do i need to finish the spartan takeover for the area before they spawn?

that would explain it, i pretty much just landed in Megaris, and then started doing ?'s, haven't advanced the story
