12) Voice-over is done with accent which makes pronunciation of Greek names or places sound natural
13) Variety of gear and ability to keep specific one by simply upgrading it
14) Ability to take gear with stats that you like but change its visual appearance
15) Variety of cultist targets, not all of them are warriors, not all of them are hiding inside a mansion and not all of them are comically bad people
16) Ability to track down cultist targets when you want to and in which ever order you prefer, by doing various things
17) Graphics is not bleeding edge but well done and consistent
18) The least buggy AC I ever played
19) The longest played AC game, most of the other where unbearable boring after 8-10 hours
20) Pretty much no 'out of animus' gameplay as it's not even needed in this game because of how it's designed
21) Clearing a large fort without raised alarm does feel as achievement instead of "ohh no this ♥♥♥♥ again" as it was in old AC
22) Mercenaries that hunt you or you hunt them
23) No fixed affiliation to the warring parties, I can take over the same region as many times as I like, I can clear any forts or just kill civilians without stupid artificial limit as it was before
24) Bosses and mega animals
25) Clear UI with indication of what kind of quest you are going to take and how you need to complete it
26) Gear sets that you can intentionally collect by hunting targets, instead of just being give by a story or obtained randomly
27) No heavy reliance on parkour
28) Stealth can be easy or hard, fully depends on how you prefer to play and character stats, instead of just being piss poor easy as in old AC
29) Killing multiple enemies at a time requires actual actions and planning from you, instead of being single button click as in old AC
30) It's not an old AC formula "Batman in pseudo historical settings"
31) Different ways how you can combine and chain abilities, which can fail, instead of old press a button and watch the same animation again and again
32) Smooth modern animations that don't care if you approached a ladder from a right side
33) Way less "accidental jumping from a cliff" or character doing something that you haven't meant to do
34) Various animals with their specific attack patterns, some have hilarious animations (like lynx)
35) Rare escort missions that are not infuriatingly slow and stupid
36) Ability to save when you want
37) Ability to skip dialogs and cutscenes
38) Some variety in how some quests can be solved
39) Option to respec abilities whenever you like

The most important - it feels as a game instead of interactive movie with a single button parkour in between cutscenes. The game that wants you to have some challenge and fun, focused on minute to minute gameplay instead of "let me tell you a story about aliens and cool guys in hoods".

Most of these are how this game is better than old ACs. Old ACs where not bad games, but each crappy implemented feature, bugs, simplistic mechanics, unnecessary and boring pieces of gameplay, brain dead fighting out of stealth, brain dead stealth, are all contributors to why I hardly can remember much of the good things about old AC games. They had some good in it, but I could finish only AC1 and AC2, the rest where abandoned somewhere on the way. I might abandon this too, but stopping after 40+ hours is a different story to 8+ hours.
Finally someone lists examples of things it does better instead of flying into a strop. And yeah some good points. The bosses are ok i guess but to me felt very game journo tier but i started the game right after finishing Sekiro, still even Medusa was quite easy even on nightmare. Gonna disagree on the mega animals though, they were awful, just huge HP bars. The combat while better than standard AC is still pretty meh imo compared to what some other titles offer, and the the animations don't sit well with me, too much Chinese wushu.

The Cult is a big disagreement for me, they just felt boring with very little atmosphere, mystery, or personality surrounding them compared to the Order of Ancients in both Origins and Odysseys own DLC. And the Ghost was easy to predict and an extremely poor main villain compared to even the Master Assassin in AC1 or the Pope in AC2.

On the whole though Origins already did a lot of what you listed, where Odyssey improved here is with the quicksave, dialogue choices (even if most them are meaningless), and gear but that one is subjective, respeccing, etc.

On the subject of clearing forts via stealth, the stealth still feels very mickey mouse to me compared to stuff like Splinter Cell 1-3, Thief, Deus Ex, Styx, etc. But i guess that's because the game isn't crafted around those scenarios like the ones i mentioned.
I haven't played Origins but did hear that some of the things where done better than here. I was referring "old AC" games between AC1/AC2 and Origins as "real AC games". Which I feel have a rather similar game design across the board, with some changes introduced in AC2 and going forward.

I can't tell if romance option is a joke or not. Some dialogues are pretty bad and cutscenes are very simple, probably was added as an after thought.

"Choice" in a how a story progresses in a game about Reliving someones life(are you playing your characters memories or are you playing with timelines?) Completly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up balancing with stealth(You Should be able to assassinate ANYBODY but someone who Seen you with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spearhead) It's a Spearhead and a Wide Bladed one at that. Either people don't have internal organs or Your are intentionally avoiding to land killing first strikes.

Finally somebody that has some education... so rare on Steam apparently (at least in the forums)... but I totally udnerstand why many of "us" sorry, do not write here, people with an education do not come on steam forums or just play games and then go back to their work\life.

This is public since 1,5 year plus or minus, so yes, they are expert of ABSTERGO technology or anyway they used it to create this CYBERPUNK CONCEPT as ASSASSIN CREED is a cyberpunk videogame (genre as somebody made me realize some months ago) and they are maybe the best to make come true the Avatar themed story since Avatar concept uses this same thing to connect the Future Earth world and the "Blue Planet" of the avatars if you have ever watched the animation movie (the first to be made btw, in 3d)...

The use of VR is going to be an important thing in the future not just of videogames and UBISOFT is DIGGING a tunnel, and building a HEAD QUARTER, a Forward base of operation (allegorically) into the Cultural world too by cooperating with Heritage and Arts, Arcaheology and Education institutions all over the world...

I am sure they have a plan...

Let's not forget that NEGATIVE \ violent narrative is used to keep players\watchers\readers\listeners into the story, engaged, and this is actually what Assassin Creed is a proof of after thousands years of repetition of this "rule" since the times of Babilonia or of the Greeks.

The important is doing this responsibly. The problem is that besides MTX which are IRRESPONSBILITY Epithome (if used in this Cannibalistic, solipsistic way.. I have an alternative a solution to them but I won't tell about it here), Ubisoft did other irresponsible things taht FORTUNATELY some people noticed, and can comment and if not censored and not harassed we are able to explain. Odyssey could have been a great game... it's not even worth mentioning instead for the violence they did to the mechanics\player control of the AVATAR (indeed) and also for the semplification they did to the RPG, and the alternative story...

SUCH A COMPLEX world of Greek and Mythology and so on, Classical sources IS SO COMPLEX you cannot rush this in 2\ 3 years development. If you do this you are just a greedy rational fool.

I'm gonna have to strongly disagree with it being the best one yet as well. From a character and story point it's the worst in the franchise imo. *************I'm not a fan of the gear aesthetics either, with Origins the issue there was that only a few of the blue items actually looked the part, with Odyssey the armour designers were clearly suffering from Warhammer/Warcraft syndrome******************** and again we end up with only the regular spartan and athenian items looking the part. And it feels like a 30-50 hour game stretched out to 150-200 hours just for the sake of making the playtime look long and selling microtransactions.

Just my opinion but from my point of view you'd have either be very young or new to gaming to view this game as anything more than decent/good, a 7 or 8 out of 10 (if we go by mainstream review metrics), yet people keep talking as if it's somehow a 9 or 10.


Lol regarding this ***** ----- ****** (I edited it) well, it's true, they were trying to sell to ASIAN players, and the design of the gear has been made from maybe China designers Ubisoft hires here and there.
Gear is a total joke, I personally use very poor look and finally at 55 Level I managed to get the 25% health reduction trading it for 100% damage bonus and to have a realistic outcome of fights (1 hit or 2 and I am dead) but I indeed wear a robe or a just cotton.. nothing else. I love realism, and only late in the game I could cancel that gameplay dissonance (having incredible weapon equipped enemies and resisting 20 hits... what a joke)

The Gear is clearly inspired to SEINTO SEYA (one of the most famous FRANCHISE EVER MADE coming from asia and that conquered EUROPE and I guess a little bit also USA even if USA has totally different mass taste than the European one...

Europe is more diverse, more rich, US is more mass culture\ steam rolled due to market and other educational issues\ welfare inexistent etc..

It's true that a gamer that likes this game is a "casual", anyway how can you NOT notice incredible flows of this game... The quality has SOOOOO MUCH degraded in last 6 years. This is SUPER EVIDENT. You cannot even compare a game like AC 1 or Ac 2 or Brotherhood to this software... a early release unfinished.
You know when you compare the value of money of 30 years ago or 1000 years ago to today and you hear the compared value that would be today? Well the quality of the game experience has totally degraded not due to inflation or other strange reasons: it's just voluntarily degraded as games need to be cheaper to generate the revenue to meet turn over stake holder publisher expectation or the company loses...
It's not about FUN, it's aboutmaking money for stake holders.

You can't have the 10th art gaming is managed by profit rules. Have you studied the basics of cultural management? Yes videogames are cultrual management\ creative industries topic and they respond to these rules.
Ask ANY PUBLISHER\developer why they make games, if they are true developers they do games and publish them because they want to make people enjoy fun hours, not to become rich.

Unity that was a bug disaster at least was patched and IS NOW A TOP AC game.

Ok... U lost me there batman gameplay is trash. It's not gameplay, it's stuff even peluches would be able to play.

This game is so trash in QoL that if I listen to dialogues with my PS4 dual shock I need to keep both hands even if I have huge hands. Because the dialogue can be selected only with the left stick not right one where the buttons are. So one can't use dialogues to hold and control the scene with one hand...

THIS IS TRASH development.

We live in aday in which developers do not even play the whole game before releasing it. Do you have an idea of what is Ubisoft publishing? Well this at least with how AC Odyssey has been handled. I don't want to exaggerate by holding entire ubisoft as a faulty maker of games.
But at least make people control the dialogue with the right stick so I can move the dialogue options and press button while i use the other hand.

Lol... Abandoning games that took 10 to 20 hours to be finished and were packed with efficient narrative and gameplay, while this over bloated thing of procedurally generated "almost nothingness" takes your life to be played to the end. I mean... where is the respect of game design? How can a person not udnerstand that you need 120 hours and more to play this game and you have fun maybe for 10 to 15 hours... all the rest is unnecessary roaming most of the time leading you to same thing (actually 99% of the times) and holding in awe... I am forced to do this... or to HORRIBLE FAST TRAVEL... facing a loading screen (I am with a NVME m.2 or ssd so I have no problems of loading time.. it's the Loading screen itself that should have been avoided!).

No.. because they have 3 years of iterated development.. .this tells for who this game is:

AC addicted.
Gaming addicted
Consumer
Not players.

Sorry for being harsh but this is a reality. If you read cultural management manuyals you understand what they are doing. You make a procedurally generated game (not all in all, but in some parts, many parts like the CRUCIAL DIALOGUES \ quests) and ... I say this, and I am not offending anyone here or there in devs studios. I am aware of these things I want other people to be aware too. We deserve MUCH MORE as supporters as players for supporting this company and if we do not ask for it or are not aware and label this as a GOTY (UTTER FOOLISHNESS) we are actually gonna allow in the gaming market trash.

And actually now this is coming from India, China, the new developing places territory of CRUCH (yes Jason Schreier I am pointing also at you for pushing this to happen by your influencing power thirst\money career thirst)...

This is ahppening becaue SOny and MSFT are going to work together in cloud (just like valve is strong in too and nobody can enter this distribution market because they have huge technological barrier \ advantage in relation to others) to counter the GOOGLE STADIA entering in the market.

I could say, have you ever had a sexual intercourse and a relationship in the order of ten or at least 2 3 4 of them with a person you love body and soul? Well you don't go at them like that (not even a videogame is allowed to simplify like that a representation of the past or of human relationship because it's like BIONIC romance... it's like Elementary 0 - 1 interaction, maybe videocards \ GPUs do sexually interrelate to each other like that LOL). Not even if you rape them (which I don't know how it happens but I can imagine).
The pre romance thing is RI DI CU LO US I can't understand why this has been done like that. (OF COURSE it's a very difficult thing to code and create because u need a CRAZY COMPLEX branching.. and Witcher did this, and u don't need a magician for it to be implemented in a game.

U need time, professionalism, passion, and the vision\ plan of the art \ creative directors.
It was clearly rushed and thrown at ppl jaws.. and it was all "censored" with a black screen too.. Seriously? I did not want to watch anything but at least I wanted something less "mathematically logical" I tell you something good and you come in the bed with me for a sex afternoon or morning... seriously? And you can do this with everybody .. there is no character depth.. it's just OBJECTIFICATION (this is one of the worse things) of the body.

I can imagine 15 years old being raised to this crap. (surely 16 years old today are much wiser than yesterday so they surely will discern this is not the way human behave).

But making the game a GORY "300 , Rise of an empire" game and then not showing anything sexual not even a adult serious series of options in romance dialogue (?!) it was a huge let down.

Sorry if when we remark this we sound bad, haters (WE ARE NOT), we love the game and we are passionate about it and we wanted it to be serious about what they were doing, we wanted it to succeed! We wanted it to remain in history as a well made game with actual scenes we want to play and replay... This game will remain in history, and how it will be remembered?

I am happy some liked it. Well... it's really a small part and why they liked it, what has been missed instead, what it could actually make better with the result of being really a memorable game?

I feel they made more a game to test their tools and train their developers AND USE METRICS on PLAYERS to study our behavior (and use these info for later business\ games) instead to create a serious game which this game should DEFINITELY HAVE BECOME.

Let me reminds you why Origins and Odyssey are 1000 better from the previous garbage ac games.

First of, for the first time ubi at last includes basic RPG mechanics and elements to make AC games a bit more enjoyable in long run playthroughs and more "ROLE PLAY" in both gameplay and story telling.

They tried really hard to not make the gameplay to much repetitive in some terms i must admit it.They give major core keys of how we want to enjoy our games.For the classic stealth gameplay of the franchise they give you the option to go full assassin build and oneshot almost everything in the game.They give you the option also if you want to play assassin hybrid with bow or go full glass cannon dmg with hunter and again oneshoting everything.Yet for the warrior builds they give you the opportunity to play with 6 different meele weapon types either to focus your build for 1v1 situation( AKA Boss fights) or for massive fights with AOE dmg.And last that not all rpg singleplayer games mostly do.They do offering a different approache by let you play as beast master and invest stats in your pets.

In open world they did really good job at exploration mechanics with "mid range lvl" clues system for their experience on rpgs.

Using Nemesis system from shadow of mordor/war it fits very well into the game and make it even more fun than before.

Cinematics - dialogue system are not the best like The Witcher 3 but they did overall an acceptable job here.

Using famous mythologies around world from ancient Egypt , ancient Hellas and now from northmen european countries it gives them a good excuse to keep using the ISU thing for making new ac games as long they're not trying to make the "classic" bored stealth action gameplay of the previous games.

Basically the same as Far Cry, each area is treated like a checklist and shown in UI as such and you just go through the motions ticking off the boxes for the sake of having them marked off on the map for the most part, unless an actual quest has taken you there. It's certainly not Morrowind tier exploration.

Here's some things the first couple of games did far better than Origins and Odyssey, no live service item shop mtx ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and better present day characters. Sorry but Layla and her crew are terrible as are the Isu. I was expecting the Isu to be imposing but nah they're just whiny nasally voice acted airheads from L.A.

Anyways this is just comparisons to other AC games, if we compare it to other titles in the genre it wants to be part of (RPGs) then Ubi have a lot of work to do, i don't see them being willing enough to deviate from their formula and live service obsession to do that though.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. You seem to have some misplaced expectations of what this game/franchise is trying to accomplish. You're looking for a level of realism Assassin's Creed was never intending to provide. Think of it more as an adventure through history tied up in a sci-fi/conspiracy story. The "cyberpunk lab" you deride is part of the package.

You should probably either accept that and adapt, or move on.

Sincerely, I am not negative on games I heavily criticize and fortunately I dnt do this because I don't buy games that are bad (often.. it's actually one of my first mis steps AC odyssey, but I had to make a research on it) but I wish more people had the critical skill and ZERO NAIVETY that Spr1ggan has. There are so many throwing opinions like it was a sport doing that. How can one say that past AC odyssey games were bad stealth ? You just Role played your approach (kind of guided) and then you slashed usually or silently took directly the one u had to take.

AC Unity is great in this and RPG things are super basic (it's more a weapon tree and that's it)l.

But I mean... They gotta work so much, it's clear they take assets from all games of their Publisher \ holding.

Even the spartans in Termopylae fight just like the motion capture (very expensive) does for the MARCHING FIRE DLC of For Honor (which of course I dnt own ... I dnt fall in those silly traps) ... I mean AC Odyssey will be remembered also for using assets for the battle of thermopilae for having Spartans with "pilum" moving like Buddist monks (totally awkward).. Come on LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!

I will never write for the entire world. Eveyrthing is subjective, but the quality I see and cheapness of what we play there is very objective (as you see I am not the only one seeing the things that I criticized... most people just avoided playing this or have no time "coming here and getting middle finger raised" from those that do not accept some wisdom and experience... usually ppl from 30+ years old that play since 80-90ties lot of good games will not have timea s they are in the middle of their careers...

reviewers are mostly SUPER TRASH to use ppl addiction to video watching (binge cancer) to raise money with views\followers\interactions (comments)... even those that seem good use super wisely Pew die pie techniques to make themselves addictive to watchers... create a "clan\tribal" culture and make the people watching and frequency higher. Some have also abandoned the reviewing because the WISE and HONEST REVIEWING IS SUPER EXPENSIVE AND TIRING.

All the rest or are not known and thus don't help the Public Opinion grow or they are total fakes like to me has become Skill Up...

They follow trends and the ones that do not follow trends like the good Pretty Good games that have mature takes most of the times have not many viewers.. because quality doesn't stick with masses...

THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Sorry But this is history.

Ubisoft wil keep:

-Verticalizing the business (check what it means anywhere or on books.. but with internet it's easier).
-Super (ab)use Promotion tools to kick a good sale first week and second week and build that terrible trash thing that is Hype (of which kids and unexperienced people suffer of).
-Comfort concept building (making games same of the same of the same so people follow this blockbuster trends as they know they will find 1 sex scene, 10 big explosions, 5 big boss fights in every experience they buy the ticket .. just like it happens for "Transformers" franchise
-Hyper REPOSITORY building to use the assets over and over and over. (the tower mechanic is super DEAD and we can't take it anymore sincerely). Repository goes from the 300 termopilae fight made with Shaolin Monk For Honor marching fire motion capture assets to much much many more things... even from the same game .- Kassandra is Alexios (body) .. .recently they reduced a little the muscles of Kassandra model I gotta say I noticed (maybe with lighting\ color they made that happen.

ANd more of these techniques which are used in cultural management to reduce the cost of a production and maximize the profit\revenue\ turn over.
