How to NOT join Sparta?
Ok, I am level 8 and found the camp of the "Wolf" and now I can only apparently work for Sparta and against Athens. Is there any way to avoid that? The game seems to let me talk to the "Wolf" only when I help Sparta conquer this province, but I rather do not wish to.

Is there a point where I can work fo Athens instead?

Through out the game you will swap back and forth to complete goals. Your a mercenary so who ever pays gets your blade working for them.

You can fight for whomever you want in general, but there are a few missions that force you to side with a certain faction.

Perhaps because the Spartans are child killers?

And them keeping their lineage strong has lead to them being the most Dominant military at one point in the world, Who dominated Greece and beat back the persians.
So what's your point?

Considering your badge, I guess I understand why you took offense. :steamhappy:

For the record, I was referring the game's lore, not real history. I mean, they did try to kill your sister/brother and then threw you, a child as well, off a mountain. :steamfacepalm:

You are a mercenary that owes allegiance to no particular side. I personally go with whoever pays me the most Drachmae at the time! :steamhappy:

It was the cult's doing, Not entirely Sparta's. The cult influenced the decision. You getting thrown off the cliff too was sparta's decision but, That's another story.

But if you hate Sparta for what it does under the influence of the cult, It doesn't make sense to want to side with Athens;. Not only is Athen's under direct control of the Cult, But they're more missions revolving around Athenian cruelty then Spartan.

No, the Oracle was controlled by the cult. The parents (father specifically) 1.) went along with it simply out of Spartan tradition, and 2.) personally threw you off the mountain, with no occult involvement whatsoever, again simply out of Spartan tradition. (Well, at least according to the dialogue.)

The Athens at least led to the birth of democracy (again, according to the game's lore).

So why this game, the first to introduce a RPG aspect, forced me to side with Sparta on numerous occasions really annoyed me. :steamsad:

If you're going to quote me at least quote the whole thing where i basically said what you just said, it was sparta's decision to throw you off the cliff. And not just the Oracle was controlled by the cult, One of the 2 King's family was as well. In that flashback of Leonidas do you think that all those cult members with the Oracle in the spartan throne room under Spartan guard which leonidas came to got in there simply because of the Oracle? Wrong.

You say Athens lead to the birth of democracy, But it was Sparta that saved Athens from enslavement by the persians and saved Democracy.

You side with sparta, Because you are spartan. And you don't 'side' with them anyways, One of the cult members is a spartan king so you do what you have to in order to find out which is which. You don't lead sparta's army to the gates of Athens.

I personally would have liked to choose a side, but sadly you can't. There are a few missions revolving around both factions, i.e. Sparta and Athens, but nothing so far as "joining" them. The family related questline is probably the closest you'd get to joining, but it doesn't impact gameplay in any way, so it's kind of useless outside of storytelling.

I would have joined Sparta if I could, since they have a better society/structure imo.
