How does Ikaros "eagle vision" actually work? [Atlantis spoiler]
Just a trivial question but curious nonetheless.

I've always assumed that in Origins and Odyssey the characters can't actually "see through" their eagles (Senu/Ikaros), the eagles simply tell them where the enemies are and the game simply skips this "telling where they are" process.

However, in the beginning of Atlantis DLC chapter 3, when Poseidon was explaining to our character what the "sixth sense" was, he said something like "it was more than your thing with the eagle". Why would the eagle bearer think of their connection to the eagle when Poseidon mentioned "a sixth sense"? This clearly indicates that Ikaros conveys the locations of the enemies via some abnormal ways, implying that the eagle bearer has some sort of special connection to their eagle, possibly a primal/partial form of eagle vision, or so called "sense of knowledge", in the earlier games. So perhaps the eagle bearer actually does "see through" their eagle when doing recons? Can someone please share their view on this matter?

I'd say it makes the most sense to assume the PC goes blind (except for peripheral awareness if attacked) and her vision moves up to the eagle's position. If you see a quest marker using Ikaros, the PC immediately says "Aha, that's where they are!" or similar. You can instantly command the eagle to harass and then you lose contact upon the attack.

Ikaros reminds me a bit of the Daemons from the His Dark Materials series by Philip Pullman (which I highly recommend to those who enjoy decently-written fantasy, and who don't mind the Catholic Church getting a good kick in the butt in the process). The main character in the trilogy is "connected" at a very young age to a great polar bear, and the two are pretty much bound to each other from then on. The bear can sense when the girl (her name is escaping me at the moment) is in danger, and the girl can "see" things from the Daemon's point of view when she is in no immediate danger. Even though they are two separate entities, as well as two different species, they are essentially one complete being through their shared connection.

I think Alexios/Kassandra are connected in a similar manner to Ikaros, but how that came about is not really explained in any great detail. There are hints (even Phoibe mentions it soon after the start of the game, that it is a gift from the gods), but it's one of those mystical things that the player is just supposed to accept.

I imagine that one has to earn that kind of connection, or be considered worthy of it by the gods for some reason. This is why Marcos does not have his own pet jackass around to assist him in his *ahem* endeavors.

The real question is can they see through other animals as well (for example the animals we tamed)

Imagine warging into your pet wolf and attacking your enemies..

Most importantly how much fun it would be to see through chickaros.. :steammocking:

Yeah, I can see that not working well with a cat of any size (like the insane lynx in this game).

"Why are you here, human?"
*mental finger flick to the forehead*
"Begone, mere mortal, and pollute my glorious self no more!"

And then if you managed to tame a chicken:

"What's your name?"
"Buck."
"And yours?"
"Buck."
"Let me guess..."
"Buck."
"You too, hm?"
"On the contrary, I am called Sebastian Wilberforce Endymion IV."
"Oh, wow!"
"But everybody calls me Buck."

Once Ikaros has leveled up enough, you should be able to call him to attack any enemy (although I think certain bosses can't be, for obvious reasons, given that Ikaros can't join you underground). Initially, all he can do is annoy folks and animals, but once he's maxed out, he'll take on just about everybody above-ground. I've seen him take out some pretty big beasties all on his own, and it's quite satisfying having him distract a super-sized Athenian or Spartan, right before my arrow slams into his skull.

On the page where you can increase your skill levels, look down at the bottom, and it should have an indicator where Ikaros is in terms of leveling up. Once you've played long enough, he is quite a companion to have along with.
