Is there any way to avoid Sea Battles?

It can be very annoying when you travel to the next land and some pirates show up. Maybe autotravel like with the horse would be nice.^^

Mostly just staying in travel mode as much as possible and not getting trapped. AFAIK, none of the pirate ships can outrun you.

Yes, Travel Speed always outruns bot ships.

I didn't like the sea battles in this game either... They're not horrible, just not as much fun as they were in the classic AC games.

Open the sail [ fast travel ] and you wont get hit or damage even when they chase you ...unless it happen on a curve bay or shallow water beach and your sail wont open then ...good buy hehe.
Anyway i love the sea battle here [ Bireme or Trireme battle ship in classical age style ..dont know what they actually call because some setting was in bronze age but the greek fire ship it is after this era which the Bysantine empire use it ..confuse from the developer or they just want to add some fun in the game ] , anyway is fun and it is very unique compare to the other Assassin creed .

Yup I agree that speed traveling is the way to go if you want to avoid the sea battles! :)

In the game it's flaming arrows which were earlier than Greek fire which was deployed in a different way. However they shouldn't leave flames on top of the water so it's kind of a mix a guess.

Have to correct you here. The 'real' classic AC games do not have naval battle at all.
