Randomly Attacked by an Elite Athenian Ship?

So basically, I was sailing to Sculptor's Elysium in Paros trying to dock. I was passing by a few Athenian ship when this Elite Athenian ship became hostile for no reason. I didn't attack it nor did I have a bounty at the time. Was anyone else attacked like that or is that just me?

Yes.. this is very normal. It happens with atheninas and of course pirates too. It just doesent happen always with atenians... u might have been wanted or something criminal was made recently. If u also aim at them or go fast towrds hem and tben stop, they might grt upset. Listen to the sounds.

Here's the thing though; I was literally sailing to the port at travel speed. I made no attempt to aggro them and I also didn't do anything criminal beforehand. Also, after exploring the island for a bit, I undocked to explore more, only for ANOTHER Elite Athenian ship to attack me. Again, no attempt to aggro and no criminal activities/bounties.

Are you sure this ship is not the weekly bounty ship?? This week we have a unique ship bounty. I haven't checked it out yet. But at times they tend to be elite Athenian or Spartan ships.

This week the ship bounty is a regular ol' pirate ship.

Sorry to necro, but I want to post for future visitors.
I had the exact experience at the same port during "A Mother's Prayers" quest. I was about to dock at Paros (I was trying to get to Naxos to fine Myrrine but I went to Paros by mistake) when a large Athenian ship attacked me. I destroyed it and incurred a bounty.

If I see a group of ships in my path.. I tend to give them a wide berth...if I pass too closely and am spotted by one ..I can be sure that the other ships will join the battle against me and I end up getting hammered...

Hello, not sure about an elite ship, but i experienced to be attacked for no reason by small "flies" athenian ships near paros docks too.
i was not on the quest with anyone transporting or supporting spartas navy... and i did not even try to get close to them, they just attack me on spot... sooo i send them to poseidon as i appreciate any income of resources, no matter how it is offered to me...
but once i sail from docks these small ships respawned and attacked me again... so just a guess guys... there is some heavy athenian ship which seems to be "stucked" in the see and these small flies are swarming around... maybe they are "protecting" this not moving bigger ship and that may be a reason why they are hostile... (and this bigger ship did literally nothing even when i sunk its friends around them)
cos once i left paros i was treated neutrally again... and i even get close to them with a little poke with ships to check
