how to use tamed animals

i have no idea if they do anything apart from following me? D:

In quests, taming a critter you're supposed to kill will usually finish the quest. Same for one of the achievements. In the others, you won't be able to tame the critter at all.
Most pets follow along just fine if you jump on your horse. Bears are the exception. They like to wander out in front of your horse from time to time! They can also be a pain when trying to call your ship if they stand right where the prompt is.
If you release a pet, it will try to wander off. If it can't wander off, it will eventually turn hostile and attack you.
You can't tame boars. I doubt you could tame sharks, either, though I never actually tried it.

if i could find it in google i wouldnt ask -.- all they say is HOW TO TAME, not how to use them already tamed
