Game is making my fans really loud
I just got a new gaming pc with an rtx 2070 super and ryzen 7 3700x. Unfortunately this game also throttles up my fans. Framerate is perfectly fine but approximately every 20-30 seconds when I'm in a city for example, my fans throttle up and they become really loud. It lasts for about 5 seconds and then goes back to normal. This is really annoying. I tried capping the framerate to 60 but it didn't help at all.

Furthermore, my old pc had a gtx 750 ti and it didn't have this kind of problem with fans despite it was struggling to run the game even on low settings.

The game really sucks up CPU resources in a city environment. And since your new CPU probably has higher power consumption than the old one -> fans get louder. Get a bigger CPU cooler and/or add fans to the PC case.

Also, the game designers could fix this annoying problem!

It's not my CPU though. I did some monitoring on this game and for some reason gpu usage is at 95% while cpu usage is just 53-60. It's like the gpu does most of the work and the cpu just drags behind

Just ran the in-game benchmark and it gives me the exact same results as my pc monitoring software: somehow this game uses 95% gpu power and just a little over 50% cpu power. It gets even more weird though. The temperature of the gpu is not rising at all, not even when the fan starts to throttle. It remained at stable 60 C throughout the whole benchmark. So it's not even close to overheating and yet the fan goes insanely loud at times.

Hi there,

Just for clarity's sake, which fans are the problematic ones? I'm assuming you're talking about the 2070 Super acting up. If so, I'm happy to let you know that EVGA and MSI make excellent free software for managing features of your NVIDIA card... for example - the fan profile.

is it an EVGA card by chance? if it is, consider downloading EVGA Precision X1 software kit from the EVGA website. This software will allow you to set a fan curve/profile, be it "custom" "aggressive" "quiet" etc.

If you do not have an EVGA card, i'm not sure if the EVGA software will work. However, MSI has a tool called Afterburner that will certainly work to accomplish the same goal.

let me know if ya need any help or have any questions - good luck to ya!

Graphics card is meant to be used as much as possible in most games. Try to limit max FPS a bit. If you get 70FPS in the city, set your max FPS to 60.

put headphones on problem fixed (for you) :)

Install MSI Afterburner if you want more manual control on the fan performance under certain temperature. Great tool to monitor GPU temperature.

Bad cooler. Try custom loop if u want silent operation :)

It's your processor. With Ryzen 5 I never even hear is. But anyhow, there are many settings, on medium I had to use with my old card it wasn't that bad.

So CPU makes noise? tell me more about that please

It's Gigabyte. And I already got a software that can control fan speeds. But I have just left it to the "automatic" position because the software feels really complicated and my knowledge about pc hardware is very limited due to the fact that I've never had a custom build gaming pc before. I'm afraid I might overheat the gpu if I start manually adjusting the fan speeds while playing.

sounds like somekind start/stop feature, when fans stop rotating when below certain temperature threshold and then start rotating at max speed and then settle down. I had one on my RX590. annoying. try to search for one in your hardware utilities. if you find disable it. it won't hurt your PC.
btw did you figure out which fans are loud? videocard?
