What does resetting and unlocking all ships really mean?

So I just started up the game first time since release, tried it very little during early access.

What does the offer for resetting progress and unlocking all ships really do? Will I "cheat" myself out of unlocking ships the normal way?

It just stops your current run and unlock all ships. Yeah, that means you will not have to unlock them normal way anymore, but normal unlocking is bugged anyway and some ships do not unlock sometimes, even when they should.
Also when you unlock all ships at once that way, steam achievements for them will not unlock, but at least all ships are available. That is another bug.

there is a bug now that is holding you to unlock the best ship, so it is not a bad choice to unlock all

I see! I went with this option then, just to be safe so I can experiment with different ships!

you need to play early access to have that option in the beginning
