Close Combat: The Bloody First

Close Combat: The Bloody First

Advice
Go to Matrix game forum and check out how to mod the camera so you can tilt down lower, it's much better.

Or just go to the core data folder open MAPVIEW.txt. Then change the Pitch to 25 and Pitch2 to 40. See if you like or just experiment with changes until you get what your after. You ca also chnage the ZOOM aswell I use 62 now. You will lose the sky BUT I think it looks even better.

This should be adustable in-game. It is silly that the developers locked the camera like they did, when so many people are already modding the game. We shouldn't have to mess with .txt files, we should have the options in-game.

I agree .Should be in game

The game was never designed for that kind of viewpoint, the assets and the code don't really handle it properly! We assumed people would be desperate to play the game in the old-skool topdown way :) Now we know that people love the lower POV we are going to try and make it more friendly for you guys, but it may take a little while to nail down.

Cheers

Good luck, Pip. I hope this gets resolved in a good way. Making a shiny new 3D engine, and then locking the view to nearly 2D top down where we can barely see the 3D hills, and not designing the game to support various camera angles just baffles me.

Like a ton of RTS/Strategy games since Warcraft 3 you mean? :) As I say, we will see if there is something we can concoct that will make everyone happy.

I understand that you thought that with topdown view, personally thats what I allways never liked with the close combat series even if I loved the campaign and that units carry over with exp and the operations all that. So the first thing I did was to change it in the MAPVIEW.txt file. And now I can finally enjoy Close combat as I allways wanted with the elevated terrain that can so much immerse me into the game. I absolutely love this new title since it opens up CC for me for the first time where I truly can enjoy it. Very happy you did the bold move into 3d. Its also perfect for all fans of the classic topview I think since its still possible to play it like that. Thanks again :)

Yeah the tilt angle is absolutely necessary in this, thank you for taking player feedback into consideration!

And if we can lower the caméra it will be better to enjoy close combat but also to have if the unit can view to the enemy will be great.

Good to hear this might be worked on more. I found myself immediately wanting more decline on the pitch, just helps you get a better lay of the land around a unit when you are placing/moving them. At least there is a hack that allows you to do it for.

I couldn't imagine playing TBF top-down, lol.

You guys need some fresh blood.

Most of the beta players must have been old guard Matrix community members if you need the release to find out these preferences. I mean it took me about 1 minute to be disappointed by the limited use of the new 3d environment. Even if some of the processes are using the 3d environment, limiting the views turns it into a 2.5d player experience at best.

OTOH the visuals are the least worry - as shown by the easy mod - it is how the engine uses the 3d environment (ai etc.). That’s core game.

I'm an old-time player of this game, back to the first version in 1996. Always wanted a 3-D version, and am thrilled to finally get it.

I've modded, and am very happy with the closer view. As other people have said, getting 3-D without taking advantage of its possibilities seems self-defeating. I liked the old-school UI in earlier versions, but there doesn't seem to be any good reason to stick to a slightly adapted topdown view.

Also, when you can, give us a higher res for the soldiers and vehicles so they look good with a zoomed-in view!!

I don't understand why everyone wants to mod the view....

I think its because people want a better view on the battlefield and also be able to see the details of the unit without scrolling around so much on the map.

Sorry let me rephrase; I meant this game was not designed for that, I like zooming up on my troops in CoH for example, but in CC, I naturally assumed it wasn't that kind of game.

If the developers designed it so it will support the views and increase model textures, sure.

It is not about zoom, it is about angle and zoom.
Once you go 3d with a game in this scale you make use of being able to judge terrain, firing lanes, cover etc from the ground.

If you don’t make use of your 3d environment, you might as well stick to 2d.
You’ll scale down Armored Brigade to the same level as CC and update the UI, done.
