What's the point of weapons with a max range greater than your max vision distance?

It doesn't seem like anything increases your vision range, and yet some weapons like snipers have a max range of 11 or so, but vision range is only 4-7 depending on the level.

If you're shooting outside your optimal range your accuracy scales down from 100 to 0 linearly at your maximum range. So each point of max range does a little bit to improve your accuracy outside of your optimal range, but not as much another point of optimal range.

With shotguns max range is a lot more important because they can blind fire even outside your vision range.

And yes it's irrelevant on snipers that already have an optimal range that's longer than your vision range.
