Game Not Able to Launch on Rift S
Hello,
Need some assistance if anyone knows the solution to this, else I'm afraid I'm forced to refund the game as it isn't playable :(

Context and setup first
Setup:
* Win 10 x64 10.0.19041 Build 19041
* AMD Vega 64 Drivers = v20.11.2
* Ryzen 7 3700X
* Oculus Rift S

Try to launch the game -
Nothing happens, OVR Runtime init seems to come up but nothing else. The game doesn't load any further, Steam VR doesn't initialize. The game is "Running" and SteamVR is "Running" and that's it, in headset nothing comes up, nothing in desktop either. Oculus Home is the only thing that comes up.

Already tried
* Rebooting
* Verifying game files
* Moving the game and steam vr installation folders to the same drive
* Updating/clean installing drivers

No luck, still broken. What else can I try? Unfortunately when I do this as well for some reason it's getting permastuck into "running" until I sign out so it eats into playtime when I can't even run it, not keen to trying to much else at this point if I'm going to be stuck with something I can't even run, at least until I can some day ditch the joke that has become of Oculus.

Scratch that, as I've know learned it's not only this game but steam vr in general that is completely broken for me all of a sudden, is there any way to launch without steam vr, native oculus SDK? Beat Saber has something similar to this. If not guess I'll just have to wait for steam vr to work again :(

Hi,

yeah, this sounds like a SteamVR problem. What I'd do is uninstall SteamVR (not Steam, just SteamVR), reboot, launch Steam and Oculus, and re-install SteamVR and run through the SteamVR setup. This has helped me in the past.

The Steam version of our game requires SteamVR, there is no way around that. Obviously you can refund and buy the Oculus version from the Oculus store if you want to, that way you don't need SteamVR.

Thanks Philip! I'll try this and see if it works. I'll keep this version and just wait until someone or something figures it out (trying to avoid getting into the oculus ecosystem in general due to the newer Facebook requirements).

Did it work man? Cause i'm looking to get the Rift S and this game to lose some weight.

If you want to get some more feedback from Rift S users, feel free to join our discord: https://discord.gg/s7SHNTQ - there are several people with Rift S in there, so I think you'll get an answer soon-ish.

From the dev side, I can say that there is no systemic issue we know of with the Rift S; all reports for non-working Rift S turned out to be something else. I personally play (and develop) with the original Rift all the time.

Hi Carnage!
I haven't taken the chance to try any fixes or troubleshooting with this yet. I may be able to this weekend and I'll let you know.
The issue with steam vr not launching I know was one other users were having as well I saw when I checked the steam vr discussion forums. Historically for me it's always been either a steam vr bug, an oculus bug, or an oculus drivers issue.

One immediate recommendation if it helps, Oculus is very, very bad about creating shortcuts to games on steam (the majority of the time it creates it incorrectly to begin with for me), so when you're in your rift S, don't launch it through the library in oculus home, use the oculus home virtual desktop and launch it from steam itself.

(I just re-read this an saw you said you were only thinking of getting it, wouldn't necessarily let my issues stop you, it's kind of inevitable to have the occasional bug, they normally get sorted in due time or somewhere finds a solution. I definitely recommend it still. Stuff like powerbeats vr and beat saber are fantastic for what you mentioned)

Not sure if its related, but I've seen several mentions of issues with the v20.11.x drivers on the Oculus subreddit. I don't have a Radeon card myself, but it woudn't hurt to try rolling back the driver
